Don't expect a warm and fuzzy feeling when you encounter the older woman. She's nice just not talkative so don't expect a lot of conversation. I come here often and will definitely be back!
If I could have given this place a half of a star I would have. We walked into the place on the snowy day and no one was in there. I said hello several times, then finally the old lady came over with a grimace on her face I 'm not sure if it was because we interrupted her Asian soap opera or because she had to get up, but she was clearly not happy that we had come in. I asked her several times are you open because of the snow. I said we could gladly come back another time If she wanted to close due to the inclement weather. Her response was, I don 't speak English. The old lady be grudgingly took our order and then proceeded to the kitchen. We ordered the scallion pancake the shaking beef and some spring rolls to start. In the kitchen I heard microwaves going followed by dinging. Then SURPRISE our meals came out. Need I say anymore! I think even the rice was microwaved!!! She never came back! We had to go up to the counter and ask to pay our bill. Umm. Nope, never going there again!
18* degrees outside, making it perfect for a delicious bowl of pho . We arrived and placed was packed. Is very small with 10 tables. We were directed to seat in table 4. The wait to get the menu was over 20 minutes which although, the food was some what delicious is not acceptable to have someone waiting for drinks and menus. Anyhow, after 30 minutes we placed our order in. We wanted to tried the fried spring rolls. They were crispy on the outside but cold on the outside. Not good! I had the rare beef noodle pho and my sister got the spicy beef noodle pho. Both were good. Not the best I had or the most memorable but good. I don't know if I would dine in ever again but probably order to go when craving hits as I live near by.
Came in on a chilly Saturday night with H. Parking was easy, convenient and off-street. The shop was dead. Completely. The hostess was playing on her phone with her feet up (no judgement, I might've done the same if it was dead). We promptly sat wherever (just as the hostess insisted) and quickly ordered. H ordered a large bowl of pho (one staple with which we judge Vietnamese food) and I ordered a typical SE Asian dinner- #51 fried eggs beef atop a bed of rice. H's pho was just meh. It had a nice kick of ginger for a hint of spice (but seriously not spicy- don't be scared), but otherwise it was bland and flavorless. To make his soup worse, his beef tasted as if it was swimming in the pot all day... The making of yucky meat. Blech! My #51 was just ok. Nothing special and nothing flavorful. At least the tomato tasted fresh. Also, I'd like to mention that well into our meal, a few other customers came in to enjoy warm meals. It was nice hearing the hustle and bustle of others. Haha. All the while, the hostess was difficult to find... Typical waitressing (it's everywhere, not just CT) in an Asian establishment. Really not sure why. This restaurant is literally within walking distance from my apartment. I'm not sure I'd walk over...
As a Vietnamese-born American who has lived in California (San Jose and Orange County reign as the largest concentration of Vietnamese people outside of the country itself) most of my life and as part of a restaurant family, I know the culture and cuisine well. FOOD: the chicken pho was just okay. The broth was not as clear as it should be and the flavor was a little off--not as rich and dynamic as true pho should be, and perhaps a little too salty. Contrary to other reviews, the bean sprouts and mints were actually pretty fresh and they give you slightly pickled cut chili peppers as an additional garnish. The Vietnamese iced coffee was pre-made, but tasted fine. SERVICE: was pretty inattentive, as others have stated, even though the restaurant was not that busy when I arrived. The waitress was not very friendly. They do accept credit cards. I do have a special place in my heart for family-owned restaurants, but one of the benefits should her more personal service, right? LOCATION/AMBIANCE: parking on the street is hit or miss. Inside, the place is small, but fairly well-kept. VALUE: the prices are pretty reasonable, but I think, overall, you could do better in terms of what you get for it.
