The hotel is lovely and the food is fantastic. However, I couldn't help but notice the lack of respect among the staff members. I believe that the staff at a hotel of this calibre should be friendly and attentive, rather than rude.
The restaurant had a sophisticated atmosphere, but it lacked a welcoming feel. The service was very efficient. Unfortunately, the main letdown was the food, which was nicely presented but bland and overpriced. Despite its appearance of fine dining, the restaurant did not live up to expectations.
This venue is absolutely perfect for a wedding. The setup is stunning with incredible views of the countryside and rolling hills. The weather was on our side, but even without it, everything was flawless - from the delicious food, friendly and efficient service, to the fantastic atmosphere. We couldn't have asked for more.
Lovely views. Shame about the food. I was looking forward to returning to this restaurant after a long absence and was very disappointed in the quality of the food and presentation. I felt there was a strong element of contrived style over substance, especially regarding the asparagus and fish dish on the so-called fine dining menu. Given the above, I felt the food was overpriced. I wrote to the owner afterwards giving details of my experience and have not received a reply. I will not be returning. There are many far superior high quality restaurants in the area.
I have dined here on many occasions, even had gluten free afternoon tea and it has always been superb. However on my visit today, I popped in with some friends for the cream tea. When the gluten free scones arrived they were on a piece of hot slate. I tried to slice one of the scones and it was solid and a funny grey colour. Even so, I put my butter on and attempted to eat it, it was disgusting, dry, hard with a weird bitter taste. Totally inedible. The waitress took them away and offered me an alternative. I chose coconut cake with pineapple. It looked really nice. I dug my spoon in and it wouldn’t go in again it was solid and desperately dry and crumbly. Needless to say that didn’t get eaten either. This was incredibly disappointing. To have had such lovely food so many times before, it’s a puzzle. A new chef who doesn’t know how to cook gluten free food perhaps? I wasn’t charged for the food in the end, but when you are looking forward to a treat with friends it was a real spoiler.
