I started with the cup of seafood chowder which was really a bowl. he broth was perfect and the mix of seafood impressive. It was a great starter. I tried the Rappie Pie because when in NS.... It was OK but not really my cup of team. The quality of the dish was excellent but it was my first taste of it at the encouragement of mom and it just didn't work for me. I doubt it would work for me anywhere so I wouldn't ding them for this dish which is an Acadian classic. I finished with the Swedish Apple pie which was also amazing. I would definitely recommend a stop at Red Cap if you are in the area. There was one server as bast as I could tell and she was so pleasant and attentive. She did a great job!
Excellent rappie pie for lunch today. Nice crispy exterior with a soft flavourfull filling. The service was friendly and the meal was delivered hot from the kitchen. The deserts at nearby tables looked delicious but I was full from the generous serving. Caps off to the Red Cap Cafe!
While travelling through Yarmouth, we stayed at the Red Cap Motel Restaurant. If I could give it a zero star rating, I would. This was quite actually one of the worst places I have ever patronized. Everything from the owner/managers displeasing attitude towards us when we checked in like she couldn't even be bothered), dirty rooms without amenities available that were posted, to the waitress that couldn't/wouldn't take the time to answer a couple questions about the menu in the dining room. Once we placed our order, we had to remind her to bring us our beverages, and flag her down for condiments. She never came over on her own to check on us, it was as though we were an inconvenience to them all. The service was horrid. My husband got the Lobster Sauce Poutine $12.95) and I went with the Seafood Fettuccine $16.99). Both were very disgusting I will post some pictures). The lobster sauce was inedible. It was cold, so cold that it didn't even melt the grated mozzarella cheese that it was topped with, and it tasted bland with fake lobster flavoring. Even the texture was off. This whole dish was wasted, and when the waitress took it away, seeing that it was not consumed, she said nothing, didn't even ask if it was good/okay/something wrong/etc. The fettuccine arrived looking okay... until it was pierced by the fork. Now the description reads: Haddock, scallops and lobster sautéed in a white wine cream sauce tossed in fettuccine pasta topped with cheese, broiled and served with garlic bread.... topped with cheese, broiled and served with garlic bread is really the only thing they got right. It was a soupy, oily mess of over cooked pasta. Although it smelled like there was fish in it, I was only able to locate what I believe to be a partial scallop and a stringy bit of a lobster leg not claw, but small leg). For $16.99, this was yet again, a huge let down. Maybe they were having an off night highly doubtful), but my advice: if you like food cooked properly, do not bother to venture into this establishment. We were left to look for a convenience store to buy some snacks.
We had lunch here one day, while on the road. The restaurant was a pleasant surprise reasonable prices and good food. My husband had some perfectly cooked local red fish, and I had the rappie pie. I 'd never before had rappie pie, and it was beautifully seasoned and full of chunks of tender roast chicken. (In case you 've never heard of rappie pie, here 's how their website describes it: What makes rappie pie made in South Western Nova Scotia so unique is its special taste and texture. The key lies in the idea of separating the grated pulp from the juice and then adding a special broth to replace the liquid which has been removed. A generous portion of beef, chicken, clams or wild game mixed in the other ingredients is perhaps the most important feature of the traditional recipe for the rappie pie. It is baked to a golden brown and we recommend you try eating with butter or molasses and homemade bread or rolls.
Ive been to a couple place before. Ive had a couple fresh seafood dinners. Maine has good seafood. Southern or Western Nova Scotia depending on your orientation has better. Probably one of the best, freshest seafoods Ive ever had. Absolutely delicious and spectacular. While we are on the subject we had extremely, friendly, great customer service. The restaurant is very homey, clean, and tight. I had the seafood chowder so good. And Fish and Chips awesome. And I washed it down with a nice Canadian draft brew. My GF had the seafood platter (clams, oysters, all that stuff) and she really liked it. Oh, yeah. Big tyme, big time. I saw someone gave a one star review. Disregard overlook that. Its not credible.
