Service was meh. Had to flag people down for anything.Nice dining room with view, but all the windows open on a cold day made for a chilly breakfast.
We adore staying on this side of the park regardless of the building to be further away from the chaos with incredible views and great dining! Whether you are in the hotels or the cabins nearby this is an incredible area for families: Beach access, great visitor centers nearby and easy parking.
We ate there for 3 days, breakfast and dinner, we enjoyed the breakfast, good coffee, nice buffet style spread with smoked salmon, eggs to order, fruits, all sorts of breads, pastries and much more .Dinner menu was limited to about 5 or 6 different main course dishes, got boring fast as 4 of the dishes did not appeal to me, between the two of us we were able to sample a few dishes, good ingredients and prep.Consistency is non existent, we ordered some of the same dishes 3 nights in a row never came the same, still good though.Wait staff was very efficient and nice.Good wines and full bar.
I find it difficult to review this place. On one hand the goal of this restaurant is to provide fine dining. However they are located in a national park.. Which is very much in the middle of nowhere. So in the sense that is fine dining in a National Park, I thought they did a fine job. If you frequent fine dining establishments a lot, then you'll probably find it lacking. My husband and I had a split decision about our meals, he did not enjoy his, whereas I enjoyed mine. Considering the limited choice of staff that National Parks have I didn't expect to be wowed, so I think that helped.
Had heard the Lake Yellowstone Hotel is a beautiful iconic hotel which was well worth the visit. The lobby is extensive with numerous groupings of comfortable seats and couches in which to just lounge and observe the comings and goings of a busy hotel. Dinner reservations are required and we came from the Canyon Village area. Parking is ample and we had no problems using GPS for its location. So if you are here to just enjoy the beauty of a glorious historic facility and the surrounding lake you will enjoy yourselves.Dinner was a bit different. We were seated right at the time of our reservation. The tables, and decor of the dining room was fitting for its setting. We began with the Escargots Bourguignonne, that was delicious but served with the thinest slivers of toasted garlic butter baquette. I had the soup du jour which was a New England clam chowder...it was very disappointing due to the clam meat being overly chewy and the chowder was not creamy and thick that I was looking forward to. Our entrees were Trout Meunierre and Olive Oil Poached Halibut. The portions were rather small and the vegetables that they were served with were meager to find. The sauces were light and not overpowering but nothing on the flavor profile that would seem remarkable. We decided to try their Blueberry Cobbler Cheesecake and I was quite sure it did not taste like a dessert that was freshly made for the day. The crust was very moist and chewy as if they had defrosted it that day. So the meal was below the standard I was expecting for such a beautiful and iconic hotel. The staff were nice and were quite busy. We did have to call a few times to have our water refilled. Perhaps as the hotel is winding down for the season the abundance of enough staff is also affected. The ambience of the hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the evening piano playing was delightful to enjoy. I just wish the level of care to the food presented and how things tasted would have had more care taken to enjoy a fine dining experience.
