Balti Island - Weymouth and Portland

We went to this restaurant last week in the evening. We had been travelling and were cold, hungry and tired. We ordered starters which were very mediocre and charged £6.75 for 1 butterfly prawn! Papadoms were £1.20 each. We ordered lamb dansak but received chicken and the sauce was very tomatoey, instead of lovely spiced lentil. We decided to share a rice, as portion sizes are usually quite generous. Not here! £4 .50 for about 4 table spoons. Had to ask for another. Our bill was £52.45 for a poor substitute for curry for 2 people and that was without drinks which we noticed later he appeared to have forgotten to add to the bill. Pleased we didn't complain, it would have given him time to remember the beers!

Strange but true there’s a distinct lack of places to actually eat in on Portland. We had been recommended the Balti Island by the B&B we were staying at. The food was tasty. Service was attentive without being intrusive.

We were told the restaurant was full despite there being several empty tables that were apparently reserved. So we ordered a takeaway. By the time it was ready the restaurant was empty!! Food was awful. The saag paneer was utterly bizarre, korma sauce topped with mozzarella string cheese? I couldn’t face it so it went straight in the bin.

We were on holiday for a couple of days and fancied an Indian. Saw this restaurant as were passing by and looked nice inside. That is where it stopped. The food served could not be recognised as Indian food. Everything looked weird and tasted like desert. So much sugar had been added, including in the onion bhajis. The most shocking thing was the sag paneer......I wished I had taken a photo.....It was like a stringy pizza topping and so sweet. I've never seen anything like it! Terrible restaurant, terrible food.....You could get a better indian in the Co-op up the road and microwave at home.

Ordered takeaway through Just Eat. Would have preferred to use the other local Asian takeaway...but not available that evening. Ordered four meals . Arrived..30 minutes after predicted tiimes and phoned up. One meal was totally wrong...chicken nuggets instead of roast chicken One meal seemed to have incorrect sauce...korma not butter chicken. All the chicken dishes were strange. One had five small cubes of chicken, one appeared to have processed chicken in the curry. Only naan bread was good. The bhaji s fell apart. Very disappointed .Will not order food from here again..even if only option..
