Topsail - Whangarei

This restaurant offers an intimate dining experience filled with warmth and charm. The food is of top-notch quality, showcasing European influences, and the service is perfectly balanced. One major issue that many restaurants face is how they present their dishes. I have no desire to eat from a plank, brick, or shovel; if that were the case, I might as well eat directly off the table to avoid doing the dishes. Additionally, I can't stand receiving hot food on a cold plate. Thankfully, TopSail avoided both of these common pitfalls, creating a memorable dining experience instead.

Debbie was most welcoming and attentive. The food was absolutely divine. The flavours were delicious. Portions weren't massive but we all left there full. Charlotte waited our table and was humorous and pleasant. Ian, the chef was excellent. Would recommend this restaurant. We will most certainly go again.

How have I not discovered this amazing gem until now?! I had been asking some friends for recommendations for a new place to celebrate our anniversary, but I couldn't get a reservation. A few weeks ago, I tried again since we had a babysitter available, and I managed to secure the last reservation at 6 PM (earlier than we intended, but it turned out to be perfect). We were able to enjoy a stunning sunset by the harbor. And the FOOD! Wow. The presentation, the flavors, and the portion sizes were all outstanding! South Island paua, venison, scallops... everything was cooked to perfection! I was completely blown away. This has become my favorite restaurant in Whangarei. My only regret is not finding it sooner! It’s worth the drive and the wait... we will definitely be returning!

They are accommodating with dietary needs and are happy to customize your meal whenever possible. The wine list and cocktail selection are extensive, and the dessert menu is simply delightful. Additionally, there's a very sweet and proficient server who enhances the overall experience. Situated overlooking the harbor atop the yacht club, Top Sail is a truly special venue. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply looking to enjoy a fantastic meal, the ambiance is unbeatable. I recommend visiting before sunset to enjoy the breathtaking view while savoring your delicious food and drinks. I can't praise Top Sail enough. I highly encourage you to give it a try; you'll likely find yourself returning frequently!
