The desserts are especially delicious, thanks to the chef's pastry expertise. The tarte tatin is a standout dish. Although the wine list is somewhat limited, the service is attentive, though not quite on par with a traditional French restaurant. Overall, for an authentic bistro experience in the area, this restaurant is a good choice.
I dined at the restaurant with my classmates in April. At first glance, the food didn't seem very appetizing, but once we started eating, it was amazing. The split pea soup was tasty and hearty, and the sole was incredibly delicious. The chocolate crepes were also good, but a bit difficult to eat without a knife - we had to use our fingers and forks. The dessert could have been a bit sweeter. Overall, it was a wonderful experience with great service. Michel, the chef, was very friendly and welcoming. Le Vol Au Vent is a fantastic place to bring your family, as long as they are not too picky with their food.
To start, we shared a marrow-bone appetizer that brought back memories of a dish my mother used to prepare in Dublin. For his main course, my husband opted for cervelles/brains that were cooked to perfection, sizzling hot, and simply delicious. As for me, I savored every bite of the wild salmon, which was cooked just the way I like it—tender, silky, and enhanced with Michel's secret seasoning blend. For dessert, we indulged in a delightful tarte tatin that signaled the arrival of Autumn with its 'season of mists and mellow fruitfulness.' Everything was impeccable. As we left the restaurant to face a long line at the border, our spirits were lifted even further by listening to CBC Radio One's broadcast of the Bob Dylan Basement Tapes. It was a fitting music choice to cap off a wonderful evening, thanks to the outstanding meal, the dedicated restaurateurs, and the beautiful pale pink sunset. The only slightly off-putting aspect of our experience was the passing of an open coal, chemicals, and goods train on the railway tracks across the road, right beside the water.
Yummy food, great homey vibe. Really great food, but maybe not worth a trip down to white rock<br/ <br/ Full review at: [hidden link]
Beautifully French. Everything is done just right. My favorites are the upside down apple tart and the seasonal chanterelle mushroom tart. Don't miss this jem amongst all the hodge podge fish and chip joints!
