Oxtail was so popular, we missed out on that one, so we tried curried goat and curried chicken which were both wonderful. We also tried the ginger beer, ginger pineapple, and a red (sorrel) drink that was milder than the two others. We loved all of it and now we know why they have been in business for so long. Proprietor was very friendly. We ate in, but you can order to take out. Portions were so large, we had to take the rest home for later.
PG'S JAMAICAN RESTAURANT: PG's saves me a lot of money. Here in White Rock sits a little bit of Jamaica that once inside the restaurant, mom's cooking aromas will have you believing you are actually there. No plane ticket required. The food that comes out of the kitchen is first class island fare. Check out the menu and everything is made in house fresh. Even the service is on Jamaican time. Grab a Ting, Red Stripe or Fresh Squeezed Ginger infused juices, sit back and listen to the music vibes. Di food authentic Jamaican it true! The goat curry has me coming back for more. Look at that plate. Pure passion from the kitchen. Yea mon, yuh taste buds wi be taken pon a Jamaican vacation. thekitchenman say's, check it out.
Stopped in tonight after a long day a work, looking for some spice and heat to combat the cold. I've had the jerk wrap before there, but it's been a while. Don't know if I'll even go back after this taste of pasty overcooked rice that filled half the wrap and without any salt that I could detect, almost cold, so little pineapple salsa (think I had two tiny pieces of pineapple) the pasty tasteless rice provided the only moisture. This was terrible! Plus there was the unappetizing smell of old oil (tryng to avoid saying rancid) while I waited - that made me a bit nervous and then I knew I had reason to be when I tasted the wrap.In the past the wrap had good flavour and was well-balanced and hot, but standards have really fallen here. Maybe chefs changed in the months since I was last in, I don't know, but it was BAD, man.Last thought, the server could have taken my payment while I waited for my takeout instead of waiting until he brought the food - there were only 4 other people in the place and one of them wasn't eating.
Finally found an authentic Jamaican restaurant! It's quite the drive from downtown Vancouver but well worth it. The food is amazing here! I had the oxtail and my husband had the beef stew. They were both very good and filling. Their portions are quite generous; I had a small oxtail and left stuffed! It's a very small location so tables may not be available during busy times but you could always get your food to go and eat it at the beach which is very close by. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items!
