Beautifully created and absolutely lovely garden with all kinds of flowers, sculptures. Lovely atmosphere Well recommended Surprised at some of the tone of the other reviews...
The setting is nice but the food is poor to average. I took my family for breakfast there is a 10% service charge which has to be paid upfront when you order so wether you are pleased with the service or not is neither here nor there, I know lots of places charge that now but it’s usually put on the bill at the end of the meal so if the service or food is poor you can challenge it. The fried eggs had been put under the grill to keep warm so were dry ,I asked if instead of a egg and bacon bap we could just have the egg and bacon and no bap but was told they couldn’t deviate from the menu ,not much of a deveat
We came here on the basis that the website states- WE SPECIALISE IN GLUTEN FREE VEGAN FOOD. The signs on the road nearby also stated gluten free food was available there. However, there was no gluten free bread available and the gluten free cakes were out on display alongside regular cakes suggesting no understanding of the risk of cross contamination for those with coeliac disease. And besides, who wants chocolate cake for brunch?? We had some drinks and left with two very disappointed children. As a family dealing with coeliac, we always carefully research where to eat out when travelling, and go out of our way for places which genuinely specialise in gluten free catering. When I questioned the person serving us, she was defensive and frosty. Should’ve read the other reviews before we came. It’s also one of these places with rules plastered everywhere which is usually a good sign that customer service is going to be poor.
We were a party of 4 and they seated us indoors, we requested if we could sit outside as it was nice weather and more spacious but they said they couldn’t accomodate that. After being seated, they brought two pots of tea to us, then we were left for 30 minutes. Nobody came to the table. After 30 minutes a plate of sandwiches arrived. A member of the kitchen staff apologised for the wait and told us they hadn’t been informed we had arrived and that they were still plating up the scones and cakes. However, we had to wait a further 25 minutes for them. The scones were small and very dry, as if they were old and had been reheated twice. The rest was okay but nothing amazing, presentation left a lot to be desired. The experience could have been made a lot better if they had bothered attending to our table. On exit, even though the till is right next to the door and we were the last to leave, the women who appeared to be the manager behind the till didn’t even have the decency to say goodbye. To summarise, a very average afternoon tea with rude and unfriendly service. We definitely won’t be visiting again.
We won’t be returning, lovely garden but food is ridiculously overpriced, our fault for not checking before ordering, we just assumed it would be normal cafe prices as that is all Jennies is jacket potato with a salad garnish £9.95, quiche £12.95! Quiche wasn’t actually quiche but a tart case with a small amount of filling. We also waited 1 hour for food and it wasn’t that busy.. This place has potential as is on a popular cyclist route but we should have realised it wouldn’t be good value by the lack of cyclists.! When the food did arrive the jacket potato was cold but my husband was too hungry to complain, the rest was quite nice but nothing special we left feeling totally ripped off to be honest. Save yourself some money and some time and go to one of the better value options in the area.
