Unfortunately, we were ignored for some time as we waited to be served. After what felt like an eternity, a lady with a ponytail finally shouted at us, asking if we wanted any hot drinks. She seemed to be in a bad mood and flustered, and even ended up breaking some china. Another lady from the kitchen came out, also ignoring us, and they had a conversation while cleaning up the mess. The first lady shouted at us again, this time more angrily and incomprehensibly. When I mentioned how rude she was, she seemed taken aback for a moment. However, my daughter decided to inform her that we would not be placing any orders and we left. It appeared that other customers who came in after us received better treatment from this person. It's unacceptable to treat customers poorly, regardless of your mood. We will not be returning to this cafe, but we will continue to visit the lovely garden centre.
The café, connected to the Garden Centre, stood out as a popular spot on the day I visited. While the café was bustling with customers, the Garden Centre was noticeably quiet. The café offers a wide variety of classic English dishes at reasonable prices. I opted for cod, chips, and peas accompanied by a cappuccino, and still had change from £15. Orders are placed at the counter and food is brought to your table. The establishment is clean and efficient, though it lacks a luxurious feel. Despite this, it is definitely worth a visit, but it is advisable to avoid peak hours to avoid waiting for a table.
I really enjoyed the tea and coffee at this restaurant. However, the apple pie was a small slice and there was no cream served with it. The meringue was better in comparison. I would definitely return to try out other menu items, such as a hot meal or a sandwich. I also liked exploring the garden center that is attached to the restaurant.
The staff are always friendly and go out of their way to meet customers needs. Yes, there are some leaks in roof but food is relatively priced and delicious.
I have just returned from the cafe with my elderly mother. On approaching the counter, the lady serving didn't acknowledge me at all. I asked for cake and with that she disappeared to the back and returned with trays I asked her for drinks and although my items were put in a tray, NOT once did she speak to me or smile. I asked her if it was possible for cream and she looked at me blankly. I said I would pay extra and asked for either double, whipped or squirty cream. This was to go in a slice of lemon meringue. She didn't answer, tipped the meringue into a soup bowl and went off to get the cream which was actually runny cream filling the bowl half way. It looked like soup!! I didn't know what to say. I paid and the ONLY time she spoke is when she asked if I wanted a receipt. I had to tip most of the cream onto my carrot cake. My mother's meringue was drowned! All in all, a very unpleasant experience, no customer awareness or service.
