However, I was surprised when my pie and vegetables arrived without gravy. The staff did manage to find some leftover gravy from Sunday lunch, which was appreciated. The real shock came when I received the bill. Although I usually don't order alcoholic beverages, I decided to treat myself to a lemonade and lime, which cost £6.10. I was taken aback by the high price and will likely stick to water in the future, as a glass of wine may have been cheaper. I would have expected such a high price if my drink had contained Bacardi.
Despite the kitchen being closed that night, we promised to return and three nights later we did for dinner. We were amazed by the quality, variety, and freshness of the food. All four of us agreed that it was some of the best pub food we've had in the UK. I had the Iberico Pork steak which tasted surprisingly like beef, with delicious charring and fresh sides. My wife had the risotto, my sister ordered the cold pork salad, and my brother-in-law chose the pie from the specials menu, all of which were excellent. It was a delightful experience to enjoy such amazing food in the charming village of Sherston.
We had a perfect meal in a charming, music-free dining room, with excellent service from Molly. The food was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous. Sherston is a picturesque village. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Just dropped into the Rattlebone for lunch. 3 of the meals were fine but my wife ordered the quiche. When it came it was the smallest, thinnest piece of quiche you’ve ever seen wit a few salad leaves. When the landlord asked whether everything was ok I told him the quiche was rather minimalist. His response was that it was a starter which was nonsense as it appeared on the specials board in between a number of main courses with nothing to indicate it was a starter. And who ever has quiche for a starter? My wife is not a big eater but we have just arrived home and she had to make a sandwich to keep her going. We have often gone to the Rattlebone after visits to Westonbirt, but we’re so disappointed this time that we will not be going there again.
