Fantastic vegetarian food and they are very accommodating on allergies and preferences. Thursday is steak night and there’s a quiz and bingo on a Sunday evening. A great vibe, warm welcome, and a proper village pub again. Hurrah!
Went for a meal with friends, their pie was cold, the fish cakes inedible, to the point where my friend couldn’t even finish her meal. I had the salmon with mash potato for £18.95 and what I received was the tiniest bit of tail end fish, I mean it was smaller than the palm of my hand, and my mash potato was non exist as they bought out sautéed potatoes which were greasy and quite frankly gross. The food was warm ish. No one even came over to check if we were happy with it, so couldn’t even query it with staff and they aren’t even busy. Not happy over priced, underfed and completely dissatisfied DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY. I could have bought my entire meal from Iceland for half the **** price. What a **** joke. If I could give 0 stars I would.
The Wheatsheaf at Oaksey opened again on Thursday under new management. Went round for Sunday lunch, choice of lamb, beef, pork or chicken. We went for the lamb….very good sized portions! Followed up by homemade apple crumble and custard (delicious) and a chocolate brownie. Recommended for food and friendly attentive service!
I’ve eaten at most of the pubs in the area and this Sunday Roast is the best I’ve eaten! The beef is cooked to perfection. (If you’re vegan or vegetarian, they do have some cracking alternatives too!
We were a group of friends staying at Lower Mill Estate and wanted a walk to a local pub instead of using onsite restaurant. We had been advised, on phone , twice , that it was walkable. We were all fit and healthy, so gave a it a go. We ended up walking for an hour , on dark country roads with no footpath and felt in danger of our lives. We arrived at pub ready for a warm meal and had pre ordered food from a menu we were sent which in no way reflects one on website. I had garlic mushrooms, four fried mushrooms, mayo and shredded iceberg covered in some kind of dressing. Others had bread an olives, white pitta bread and tinned olives. The chicken burger was like something served in school canteen with frozen chips and purple coleslaw. Looking at menu on website I can only think the chef had a night off , but still charging top prices. Unbelievable BUT service was good and friendly and taxis were found to get us home.
