The Wheatsheaf Inn - Wiltshire

When a chef departs, there is always some worry about the future of this village pub. However, what sets this place apart is its fantastic staff led by the always cheerful Alex. I recently tried the Sunday lunch here, and I was pleasantly surprised by how good it was. This is my go-to spot, so it was a relief to have a positive experience. I do wish they would add more variety to the menu, including bringing back the beloved pizzas and offering more options for vegetarians, as the current choices are limited.

I have been eager to visit this restaurant for some time since I enjoyed watching Thomas Frake on Masterchef and admired his cooking style. However, I must admit that I was somewhat disappointed with the food. The main courses and starters were mediocre, and my husband's dessert, a chocolate fondant, was dry with no gooey chocolate in the center. On a positive note, the staff were fantastic and extremely attentive.

We had a big family get-together with 18 people and the service and food were outstanding. I heard multiple people say that it was the best beef they had ever tasted during lunch. Every dish was excellent, beautifully presented, and we were very thankful to the staff for making our visit unforgettable. We have decided to make this an annual tradition now.

Sunday lunch at the end of November, the Wheatsheaf ticked all the boxes and I just don't know why we haven't visited before. Excellent food, excellent service, dog friendly, we will be back soon.

We were staying at Warners Littlevote House Hotel and went on one of their recommended walks which passed through Chilton Foliat. We saw the Wheatcheaf pub and decided to pop in for a drink. It is a lovely traditional building with friendly service and was a prime example of a old fashioned country pub. They did serve food but we did not eat here.
