The White Lion - Winchester

My wife and I visited The White Lion to try out their Christmas menu. The restaurant area was warm and cozy. We were seated in a room at the back of the pub, which we jokingly referred to as 'the fridge,' as it was quite chilly. After waiting nearly 15 minutes for our drinks, we finally received them after making a complaint. Our food was eventually served, and I told the waitress that I would pay the bill right away, eat our meal, and then leave because we were so cold. She apologized and said we should have mentioned our discomfort earlier so they could have moved us to a warmer area, which left me wondering why we were seated in the cold room in the first place if we could have been relocated. To make matters worse, the radiators in 'the fridge' were barely warm. Despite the disappointing service, the food was actually very good. It's a shame that our evening was marred by the poor experience in 'the fridge.' Would I consider returning? Perhaps.

This charming pub has an antique feel and cozy beds with comfortable bedding. The breakfast is large and delicious, and the staff is fantastic. A definite must-stop!

We had high expectations for this restaurant, as it came highly recommended and is a local favorite for one of our family members. Unfortunately, our experience did not meet our expectations. Despite being booked for a party of 9 at 2pm, the previous patrons were still occupying our table. After a delay, we were finally seated at 3pm. The lack of organization was evident, as the staff did not prioritize moving the previous group to the bar area to accommodate our reservation. The service was subpar, as the landlady seemed indifferent to our seating situation. We offered to sit in a different area to make it easier for them, but they were unable to accommodate us properly. The food was mediocre at best, with undercooked roast potatoes and tough Yorkshire puddings. Overall, our dining experience was disappointing.

Planned our lunch here for walk through Meon Valley. Prebooked and just as well as pub busy with another walking group. Been recently updated as last time we visited was preCovid. Friendly and efficient staff and very welcoming. Only problem is limited parking so car share if possible
