We also enjoyed a 2-hour private tour with one of the estate's experienced gardeners, Tim, which cost £40 for our group of up to 4 people. The gardens were absolutely stunning, set against the backdrop of the beautiful house. We had a wonderful afternoon and will definitely be returning in the future.
The original manor was constructed in 1634, but the history of the land can be traced back to 1086! Visitors can book a tour of this enchanting place. Make sure to wear comfortable walking shoes, as the property has expansive grounds. The site is also home to a restaurant where visitors can purchase jams, seeds, pickles, and more. Additionally, the area is used for educational research, including the cultivation of ancient grains and the use of upcycled materials in the landscaped gardens.
We recently did a tour of the gardens which only takes place on Wednesdays for individuals and found the whole experience to be excellent (it's advisable to pre-book beforehand by calling 01628825517). You are shown around in small parties by one of the gardeners who are really friendly, helpful and rightly passionate about their work, they are very knowledgeable too. The tours take about 2 hours and it's definitely worth doing. After the tour we enjoyed lunch in the restaurant which very nice, and whilst the menu is a bit limited the food was very enjoyable and the service came with a genuine smile. There is also a small farm shop adjacent to the restaurant too.
We arranged a visit to these private gardens and were guided by the delightful gardener named Lin. The gardens we explored during the 2-hour tour were truly impressive, and Lin was very knowledgeable, engaging, and eager to address any queries we had. Unfortunately, photography was not permitted. The admission fee covered a tea, coffee, or hot beverage at the café, where we also purchased our lunch. The menu was somewhat limited, and the café was bustling when we visited. Overall, it was a charming and enjoyable experience in the morning.
I recently visited the tearoom and farm shop at Waltham Place in White Waltham and, as usual, the food was excellent. All the produce is homegrown, including the soups, bread, and cakes for sale. The tearoom is only open in the late spring and summer season (May to September), but it is definitely worth a visit. They also offer garden tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays by appointment, as well as other events like Walk with the Farmer, Special Interest Days, Seasonal Walks, and Courses. During my visit, I enjoyed soup and a freshly made salad, along with coffee and a piece of cake, all of which were delicious and homemade. The setting is charming, with plenty to see and do, especially if there is an event happening that day. Just a heads up, this is a private estate so photography is not allowed onsite. I highly recommend this place and plan to return soon. They are open from 10:00 am on Tuesdays through Thursdays and at 10:30 am on Fridays (with a BBQ if the weather is good).
