Grabbed a couple pizzas their way on the menu. Each was good. Beer was cold. Service was good. All you could want from a pizzeria.
I had an early supper today at Carbone Coal Fired Pizza I love love love pizza and ordered a small pizza with pepperoni, cherry tomatoes and roasted red peppers. It was a good pizza! The crust was light and the crunchy along the edges. The ingredients tasted fresh. Apparently they support Manitoba farmers and suppliers and import from Italy what can't be imitated. To be authentic, pizzas are baked in a coal oven at 850F and take five to seven minutes. I'd get it again. Hayden was my server and he took good care of me.
Have tried this place several times and it seems to be going right downhill unfortunately. They rebranded and are now called Carbone Cafe Club because they're open earlier to cater to the downtown business crowd. They do have a nice patio but that's all this place has going for it. We ordered pizza for pick up and after a 3 minute drive home, the pizza was completely cold. Toppings were sparse and dough was soggy and flimsy. This was the last chance for this place; we will not be back. Too many other great places downtown where we can spend our money.
Holy Balls! Do you like meatballs? Carbone's meatballs are nothing short of AMAZE BALLS. You know what would have made the balls even better? BREAD. I do not cut carbs and I would have loved to soak up the sauce with a hunk of yummy bread. I miss the days when the waitstaff just plopped off a nice bread basket. Anyways...I need to backtrack. We stopped in on a Friday night and were quickly seated and waited on. A good start, indeed! I love a good cocktail list and always a tough decision but I was chilly after our walk downtown so I warmed up with an Old Fashioned. It hit the spot. Hubby got a local beer on tap sorry I forgot which, but he loved it. Our waitress was awesome, and even gave us a heads up on a late happy hour who doesn't love deals? We ended up with $5.00 margherita pizza and a $6.00 glass of Malbec. Both did not disappoint. LOVED the crust. Unfortunately, the kids did not want pizza and ordered pasta (not on special). The rigatoni has a nice hearty sauce and perfect for kids and hungry adults. Basic and delicious. The other was a pasta with a dreamy mushroom wine sauce also DEEELISH!! I don't hold back on dessert and splurged on the hazelnut mousse dish it was a giant blob of gooey delight. If I lived in Winnipeg I would love to return here again and again. The pizza menu was full of mouth watering options. The salads and appetizers were also appealing as I mentioned, we loved the meatballs! I would have loved to try more but I can only eat so much. What I didn't appreciate was the teeny bopper music. It was a little too loud for me but I'm old and I will say my boys liked it (ages 14 and 23). Overall a great spot to eat or drink! Not overpriced and great service, great menu. What more does one want?
