The service was nice, but the food was mediocre at best. I wish I had known beforehand that the service would be slow. During the COVID-19 pandemic, I have noticed that most restaurants offering takeout have been quite average. It is disappointing to see that some restaurants do not put in the effort to provide quality food during these challenging times. How can you go wrong with fried rice? Some of the dishes tasted like they were reheated from a frozen box. I could go on, but there is no point. There are many other restaurants in the area that serve much better food. I recommend continuing your search for a different restaurant.
Jan Jan at Hai Shang has always made us feel very welcome since our first visit. She is always eager to recommend the latest dishes on the menu. The food is prepared in Shanghai style, which is different from Cantonese style but equally delicious. Thanks to this restaurant, we were able to try soup buns for the first time and have been coming back for more ever since. Delicious!
Had a wonderful family dinner here yesterday evening, service was great and friendly, eating freshly prepared. the tante will talk to everyone who feels like being a hospitable with someone. we tried a lot of their dishes and everything was delicious, the soup dumpling was good, but would have been better if the skin was thinner (compared to din tai fung, that is the best xiao long bao I tried) we also ordered from the special menu and it was both awesome, beef stew and rice wine fish. from the regular menu we have ordered and enjoyed the crispy bark belt, mapo tofu, shanghai special soup, pfanne fried noodles and the bbq huhn with sauce. this is a very good family-run Chinese restaurant with authentic aromen and unique decorations that do not make her run the mill Western Chinese food, highly recommended!
I absolutely loved the pineapple! I also tried the deep-fried spicy salt calamari, but I think the batter could have been fried a bit longer for a crispier texture. The bark meat and gai lan were delicious as well. I would recommend skipping the calamari next time.
Our go to place in the South end of the city. Owners are extremely kind and generous. Food is delicious and good portion sizes. Try the soup dumplings and you will get a lesson on how not to spill it all over your shirt. If you have a large catering order, they will open up early for you.
