We visited the Acorn on 28/7/23 table booked for 5.30pm, not overly busy at that time. We usually come here around once or twice a month. We ordered 1 x old faithful DOUBLE beef burger 1x old faithful single beef burger with NO salad or burger sauce 1 x lasagne 1 x chicken tikka Cheesy garlic bread Onion rings Chips We received 1 x old faithful single beef burger 1 x old faithful single beef burger with all the salad burger sauce 1x chicken tikka Cheesy garlic bread pretty much burnt to a cinder Onion rings Chips We had to ask where the lasagne was Then we had to tell them about the burgers, my husbands was taken away to sort the extra burger , my sister in law decided just to take hers apart so she pretty much had the top bit of the bun and a portion of the burger . The young girl came back and told my husband that there were no more burgers ready so it would be around 10mins!!! Also, the young lad who was serving the food to us has thick shoulder length hair , should that not be tied back so it's completely off his face rather than have flowing hair near food that he's serving.
Awful meal tonight at The Acorn. Starter came out in five minutes, so when forty five minutes later there was no sign of the main meal, it was clear that something was up, so a member of staff had to be approached. When it did eventually appear, the steak ordered as a medium rare was very much on the side of rare (oozing with blood), and the 'sizzling ' aspect of the course seemed to have given the chef the impression that he didn 't need to cook the mushrooms and tomatoes, so therefore the hot plate would do the work for them. Onion rings were limp, lifeless, and had clearly seen the fryer for only the briefest periods. Onions themselves were charcoal. Chicken stack wasn 't much better, with the meat overcooked and the 'crispy buttermilk ' coating taking its name to the most extreme level and falling off upon touch. Chips were fine. I paid for the meal, I don 't believe in not doing so, as wages need to be paid and costs have to be managed. It would though have been nice to have the opportunity to share my opinion with a member of staff. Pub or not, a brief visit from one of the team during the meal is always a nice touch. Upon paying, the staff member behind the bar seemed more preoccupied with discussing cocktails with her visiting friend than 1) asking if my meal was nice, 2) giving me eye contact, and 3) engaging in even the most cursory element of customer service. Not great.
Food and drink always great here on many visits. Our daughter Sophie loves coming back as everyone in the Acorn team is very welcoming and goes out of their way to ensure she has the best visit ever.
We have been going there for a number of years and always been ok, but went there on sunday and i found that certain members of staff need re-training in customer service. in my experiance you go to a pub to enjoy yourself and not to be served by someone who would turn the milk sour. A nice friendly smile would go a long way.
