We found forks and knives behind the cupboards and the bathroom was a state, half a toilet roll and no soap to wash hands with or shampoo for the shower. Not very deluxe.
So let’s start with the positive. The bed was relatively comfy and the room came with mini soaps and shower gels. Free car parking. Unfortunately this is where it ends. The decor is very tired and dated. The carpets are worn and showing signs of cigarette burns and stains. The room has been repainted at some point but in a very amateurish fashion. They didn’t bother to remove the artwork off the wall so smeared paint on the frames. The tv screen was secured to its frame with sellotape. The window in the room opened to a rooftop but there were lots of cigarette butts sitting very close to the window ledge. Evidence of previous occupants smoking out of the window that has been left by hotel staff, rather than cleaned. The bathroom was just as bad, the light switch hanging off its wires rather than the rose being attached to the ceiling. Behind the sink looked like it had not been cleaned in some time while in the loo was evidence of a previous occupants skids. The shower was either steaming hot, or off, with no adjustment working. I was there with work so stuck in the room for the evening. However there was no chair or desk in the room. The hotel also locks up at 10pm so I was unable to work late (my employer is a 24hr operator) Wi-Fi was intermittent but this isn’t a deal breaker for me although I know it would be for some.
Wouldn't stay there again if you paid me. Didnt feel safe and very poor maintained..absolutely lovely 16th century building, just needs a decent owner. No food or bar. I will say that I think the manager has his hands tied.
Easily the worst hotel we have ever stayed at! Apparently the building is 400 years old, the carpets look and smell like they may be about the same age. Very ropey old joint, I can think of any circumstance under which I'd recommend this place. We had 2 rooms and were unable to get the shower to the correct temperature in either of them. The whole place smells of old carpet and the general standard of cleanliness is poor. Just not good enough. If you have to go to Wisbech, please find somewhere else to stay even if it's out of town. (has to be said, Mario the manager was a very nice guy who is doing his best under difficult circumstances)
The place is falling apart.Stains in the bed, no pillow case, hole in celing, 1 window with no curtains onto high street, dirty room not cleaded dust everywhere dried paint in several places on the carpet, windows rotten paint come off and wood rotten away, no tea coffee. Place has been bought buy and Egiptian muslim i presum as the bar has been shut, but this is England and people expect a bar in a hotel to sit and relax and even if only having a coffee or a drink or 2 before bed,. The few staff that are there are great but they need many more to run efficiently, but i feel he is holding out to turn the place into a hostel for refugees to cash in, he should be refussed the licence due to neglect thats happing now which will only get worse
