We got there a little early, around 1745, not even sure they served wine because of the lack of reviews and dated online menu. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised. Full bar and wine list. We chose the Australian Shiraz and the Aussies hit it on the head. Our entrees were the Cavatelli alla boscaiola di monte pollino.Yum! Check the menu online. For dessert we shared the Tiramisu and it is now the best we've found! We highly recommend Puntino Trattoria. Oh, the wait staff was Excellent!
Pop up stand on leichhardt, on Norton Street. Italian food festival at the best and the longest I’ve seen on Sydney by far! Queue for the gnocchi was long enough for you to waited for 20’ for a bowl of hand roll pasta. Some Italian Nonna, making beautifully hand crafted gnocchi, all day long, smiling and dancing at the open kitchen, become of on the fab culture attractions apart from the Italian food festival it self. $15 for plain gnocchi or pesto flavour. Texture of gnocchi was soft like pillow and so delicate. Sauce was keep simple, one thing for me is like touch of salt, then the dish will be perfect!
Had the fun guy pizza, Napoletana gnocchi and ravioli. Pizza was great good base and toppings the gnocchi was good but the ravioli was quite a let down undercooked and the filling was tasteless. Staff were friendly though and service was great
Absolutely perfect service by a single waitress. Nailed all the minor details that so many places seem to now overlook; continually topped up water, remembered orders and got details right, checked everything was ok, offered dessert and coffee etc. Food was also perfect. Pizza amazing as real Italian pizza so often is crisp base with a hint of char from the wood fire, fresh Italian ingredients. Gnocchi was pillowy melt in your mouth goodness, and the mushroom and truffle sauce had a good whack of truffle without being overpowering. They only lose the 0.5 stars as we booked based on the menu on their website, but the menu in the restaurant was a much abbreviated version. We all still left very happy and will definitely be back.
The distinctive red-and-white checkered tables in Puntino Trattoria was the first thing which caught my attention during my visit a few nights ago. Located on Crown Street, the exuberant Italian restaurant in Woolloomooloo was filled with chatter and laughter and the occasional thumping sounds from the pizza chef kneading and preparing the dough. It was an extremely busy night, so the food came shoddy and worse than expected. First, the cider came with a glass full of ice and became extremely diluted. It would be good if they consulted the diners on whether they preferred drinking from the can or bottle to that from a glass. Second, the handmade pasta, Ferrietti alla mollica, prepared with garlic, fresh chilli and breadcrumbs, was undercooked and tasted raw. There was not a hint of garlic, chilli or other spices to complement the pasta and provide some flavour. Hence, it was very bland.
