It used to be the best karvery and best desserts, unfortunately it had a change of own and they have changed a winning formula. do not misunderstand me, they have the inner cleansed, window frames are cleaner, seat covers cleaner and the inner was generally refreshed. the quality of the meal is not as good as the previous administration. Previously they have a great selection at desserts here and all were of a high standard. the cheesecake is now more of a mousse consistency that does not resemble a cheesecake and not where close to the quality they are earlier. the filling is now dry compared to the high quality offer a few years ago, the overall quality has slipped while the prices have risen. need to improve the quality of food, it was far better 2-3 years under the old property.
My wife and I made a quite long trip to this pub and decided to go back when last time the food was excellent and personal nice with us. I am very sick and everything we wanted was a relaxing meal with good food. we have decided. from the 2 course menu so that we could share a starter and then according to our network, a pudding. our server told us that this is not allowed, because “the pub would soon go down” if you were allowed to share the people. we have pointed out that we have done this before and there was no problem. she became quite aggressive and clear could not understand that regardless of who started and pudding it cost the same and was certainly not a loss at the pub. Fortunately, we were immediately understood by another very friendly server rescued the situation. after such an unpleasant unnecessary conversation, we ate a bit and left. the whole episode was extremely unpleasant. during the server that saved us, he apologised, he did not compensate for the inconvenience.
We love the carvery at this pub so my partner arranged a surprise birthday meal for me with my family. En route my partner called to double check the booking and was told we have a table outside. We can’t sit outside because it’s very...cold and we have a baby and small child with us but they told us there was nothing they could do, they could no longer accommodate us inside. At short notice we couldn’t get in anywhere else due to there being quite a few of us so we had to call the family who were all ready to leave home. This is the second time we have booked a table over the phone and called/turned up to find we don’t have a reservation. Great food but awful service. Me and my partner are incredibly frustrated.
You might think that carveries are passe, but trying out the “ultmate carvery” at the Royal Oak will change your mind. Everything on offer was cooked to perfection and the choice of vegetables to accompany the very large cuts of meat was incredible. The excellent...and very efficient service provided topped the evening.
