The King and Castle used to be my local. I used to frequent it several times a week virtually since it opened. I have watched its fortunes ebb and flow over the years but remained loyal as it was the nearest place to my house that served Batham 's. The beer was generally OK and the 'usual suspects ' that made up the 'locals ' were pleasant and engaging. It must have been such a money spinner to the charity in its day. It is heart-breaking to see it today and I despair that it has been allowed to sink so low. It is barely open during the weekday evenings. When it is open the dis-interested and demoralised staff give the place a funerial air, the beer is outrageously expensive and the quality is marginal to poor. I assume the reduced hours do not allow a decent throughput? I walked in broadly hopeful and left virtually suicidal. This is a resource that is being wasted by a poorly managed charity. I thank the lord that I resisted buying SVR shares all those years ago. Such a shame!
A group of friends decided to meet at the King and Castle for drinks last night 03/12/22 There were 2 females bitching behind the bar rather than serving the customers, what should have taken my husband a couple of minutes to buy 2 drinks it was nearly 10 minutes, there was a guy reading a book buy the fire who every now and again jumped up and cleared the tables, they had no original gin only flavoured, and the pub smelt of chips, we sat with our friends but ended up moving seats because it smelt very strongly or cat **** to put it bluntly, the only saving grace was the company we were keeping, what a shame that such a great pub has deteriorated so badly
Ale good. The rest is not good. Service poor. Slow. Unecessary time to get a beer even when quiet. Ambience minimal. And of several visits this year there seems to be a small group of regular locals with dog that keeps loudly yapping; any other pub it would be asked to leave.
A great choice of cask beers available from local Bewdley Brewery and further afield. Perfect for a quick drink while changing trains.
