I have dined at this restaurant multiple times in the past and have always enjoyed it. However, this recent visit was very disappointing. Our server was unfriendly and the food arrived lukewarm. Our side of French fries, priced at $10, were served cold. Even dessert, specifically the bread and butter pudding, fell short of expectations. It was essentially two slices of bread with an overly sweet caramel sauce drizzled on top, not a traditional pudding. Overall, the experience was disappointing considering the price we paid. I am hesitant to return and may explore other dining options in the area instead.
My wife, a friend, and I went to this restaurant for dinner. The interior design is sleek and modern, but the lighting is a bit too dim for my taste, especially where we were seated. The wooden chairs were uncomfortable, and one of the ladies had to ask for a cushion (which the waiter provided promptly, indicating that this request is common). I ordered the roast quail with vegetables, which was delicious but came in a small portion. Both ladies chose vegetarian dishes, which they found good but not outstanding. Considering the high prices of both the food and wine, I expected better quality.
Only good thing...the King George Whiting was excellent. BAD thing: prices are way too high. Seriously Lamont's? I know the food is good but...Service - not good. Wait staff need an attitude change.
Again, I preface this review by saying we are in hospitality, have been for years and were trained the 'old' way. Kate, please stay in the kitchen. Being out front, with chefs clogs on is not a good look, nor is it your forte. A reminder ... hot food first, don't leave it on the bench to deliver a salad to another table and then come back for it. Staff ... you have service plates for a reason, please use them. I don't enjoy your fingers on my cutlery other than when they are transferred from a service plate to my table. Wines by the glass are all Lamont's. Regardless of what you have been told, it's not good marketing. Your wines are not good enough and one expects a selection from the region. We ordered a lovely Pinot Noir which was promptly poured into a standard Restaurant glass. This didn't allow the wine to open up and show all the characters it has. A decent glass is not expensive and wine poured into the correct glass is a perfect up sell opportunity. Disappointing. My prawns, watermelon, chorizo dish was nice, however, not great. The quail was delightful. Our entree of rillettes was delicious. We've given this place so many chances and it continues to miss the mark. It's not hard to hit the mark, especially where this is located. Please get a decent by the glass list. We won't be back.
