We arrives to the Monastery´s restaurant and it was completely empty, but a few minutes latter, a couple of large groups arrived, so we hurried to order before them. As in many country restaurants and eateries, they offered a fixed price with 3 courses, with 5 choices of each course. We started with a Niçoise Salad, thas was simply advertised as Tuna and asparagus salad, but also had hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes and beet in a generous size. Then we had fish and mouton meat balls that were okay and for dessert, excellent apple strudel and rice pudding. Despite the groups, the service was very fast. The menu offered jus one house wine, but it turned out to be good enough.
We had a wonderful dinner at the restaurant in Leyre. Very reasonable priced at only 19 euros, the menu includes wine, water, dessert, bread and two main, and exquisite, dishes (merluza and fresh beans for us). The staff is great. We were so very pleased. Have in mind that these are new owners that have started in March 1, 2019. In my opinion, it is not fair that they carry the weight of bad reviews from previous owners. Highly recommend monastery and restaurant!
Although there had been a large number of visitors during the afternoon, the restaurant was in dis array, with rubbish on the floor and tables not cleared after the guests had gone. The service was very slow I think there might have been only one waitress on duty and she was over worked and grumpy. The food on the limited menu was good, but a bit on the cool side.
We ate here as part of an overnight stay at the hotel. Large restaurant with a reasonable choice on the menu but had no issues with the selections and everything we had we were happy with. Service is i bit reserved, not sure if the staff are only for the restaurant or part of the religious order at the monastery.
