The Japanese Express is located on the second floor of the Pacific Mall, situated on the larger of the two food courts. I visited on a Monday afternoon at 2:30 p.m., so there was not a large crowd and I was able to easily find a seat (which is not always the case). I chose Japanese Express over other restaurants because of the large picture wall and the appealing menu items. Despite being the only customer at the time, the cashier seemed a bit slow in taking my order. After a few minutes and calling her multiple times, she finally came over and was very polite. I ordered the Ramen and California Roll Combo (special of the day) for $9.35. The cashier asked about my spice preference, which was nice. Despite there being three orders ahead of me, my food arrived quickly (within 10 minutes). I was pleased to see that the food looked like the pictures displayed. The ramen came in a black plastic bowl and the California roll consisted of 8 pieces. In addition, there was tea, soy sauce, wasabi, ginger, and a side of kimchi. The taste was average overall. The ramen resembled well-made instant noodles, while the California roll had mediocre fillings. However, the avocado in the sushi tasted fresh and the soy sauce was unexpectedly good. Many Japanese restaurants water down their soy sauce, but this one had a rich and flavorful sauce. The combo was quite filling, and those with smaller appetites may not be able to finish it all. One aspect that stood out to me, although it may not bother everyone, was the menu at Japanese Express. It was written in both Chinese and English, but contained spelling errors in both languages. While bad grammar can be forgiven, spelling mistakes are inexcusable as spell check is easily accessible. Despite this, I appreciated the authentic Japanese atmosphere with the small table attached to the counter, giving a true Japanese dining experience. Overall, I would recommend Japanese Express for its reasonable prices, generous portions, and satisfactory food quality.
Wanna to grab something quick and my kids wanted Jap Chae so we picked this placeGreat customer services.
This restaurant is a great choice for those seeking fast food-style Japanese cuisine. They offer a wide variety of options on their menu board, but I highly recommend trying their bento box selections.
