The wonton soup was bland and tasted like boiling water. I cannot believe this restaurant has been in business for twenty years!
I can't believe they are paying people to write such misleading reviews. This restaurant is nothing like what was described. As a resident of Hong Kong visiting here, I decided to dine at this restaurant at my father's request. The food was overly salty, full of MSG, and the shrimp tasted muddy. The dishes were overly greasy and had a strange pasty texture. Even the soup was laden with MSG. Overall, the food was definitely not worth the steep price.
Only the thought of Jim Chai Kee's sommes makes my mouthwater. They are THE BEST competitions you will ever have. Big golf ball size wontons filled with lots and lots of shrimps. The service is fast, its own tea or hot water and... its hot chilli oil is the best! The menu is simple and all they do are winemakers, fish balls and beef via egg noodles, rice noodles or rice micelli, with soup or L-My. This place is a very popular lunch place and parking is very limited. I've been here since the opening and it's 19 years... still strong and still delicious.
My wife and i just recently discovered Jim Chai Kee. We love noodle soup and this is by far the best we have found so far. The fish balls are out of this world and the broth has a lot of flavour. I am bothered...by msg, but it seems as if Jim Chai Kee does not use it. I have had no issues. Don't come for the ambiance, but if you want a quick, tasty and cheap bowl of noodle soup, this is the place. It is really busy around 12:00 and parking can be a problem, so I recommend coming either before or after 1:00.
