Cafe Kern Bakery - Zürich

We were staying at the Coronado Hotel just a block away, and we did not want to spend $15 Swiss Francs per person for their breakfast. So when we saw this local bakery, it was the choice to try.We got a couple of golden raisin rolls, a chocolate pastry, and a croissant with Nutella fillings. All were quite unique. Even though they were not the French bakery/pastry quality, they made great breakfast for less than $8 Swiss Francs. That with the free coffee from the hotel, it was a good bargain.

Kern is located near the University Irchel and park and serviced by numerous Tram and bus lines. There is a large sidewalk seating area that tends to mostly be utilized by smokers. The inside room consists of partial wooden back panels and wooden tables and chairs. The place is a basic, but very well insulated from the street traffic and good environment for conversation or reading the daily newspaper. They also offer parking in the rear of the business. Their take away business is located next door that offers so many sweets, pastries, cakes and candies and you can also order beverages to go.I dined in and had tea which was served with a small cookie and also a plum tart all less than 9CHF, a very good bargain. Kern also gives one a mini hour-glass, so you can time your tea. The staff was very friendly and business was really picking up by mid-morning. I would certainly recommend, even if it is only to grab something quick from their take away next door.
