We ordered the Shirasu Ikura Don, Ankou Ryudon, Takoyaki, and Megane Karaage. The Takoyaki was tender and delicious, not like the cheap izakaya or conveyor belt sushi places - it really stood out! The Megane Karaage was surprisingly tasty. I thought it might be a kind of oily fish, but it turned out to be a deep-sea fish. The taste was subtle and white, yet surprisingly juicy. I didn't mind the bones at all. Before we knew it, the plate was empty! The Ankou Ryudon had a sweet sauce that blended well with the ankou and rice, but it was a bit heavy. I ended up eating only 2/3 of it and gave the rest to my husband. I definitely want to try the Megane Karaage again!
I visited the restaurant on the Saturday of a long weekend. As I walked to the parking lot, I was greeted by the wonderful smell of simmered fish, which made me abandon my plans to order sashimi. The enticing aroma was enough to make me decide on my meal before even entering the restaurant! We arrived right at 12:00 and although there were a few empty tables at first, they quickly filled up. On July 16th, the simmered fish of the day were red snapper and sea bream. We each ordered the simmered fish set meal. The sea bream was absolutely delicious!!! There was so much edible meat that I felt luxurious indulging in it. The red snapper was also delicious, of course. The orange dessert was refreshing and a nice palate cleanser. The staff kindly pointed out recommendations in addition to the menu and praised me for eating the sea bream so neatly, aside from the parts that couldn't be eaten. They were very friendly and I would definitely like to visit this delicious restaurant again. The sea bream set meal was only 1250 yen, which was a great value for the deliciousness and portion size.
I visited a cafeteria run by the market at Otsu Port! It was about a 5-minute taxi ride from Otsu Port Station. The interior of the restaurant was quite spacious and there were a fair number of customers. I started with a bottle of beer and ordered the recommended local fish sashimi platter, amberjack collar simmered in soy sauce, and blowfish Karaage from the regular menu! The local fish sashimi platter included flounder, Japanese butterfish, sea bream, and cutlassfish! The flounder was tender but had a crispy texture and was incredibly delicious! The cutlassfish was lightly seared which added a nice touch and made it delicious! The amberjack collar simmered in soy sauce had plenty of meat and was thick and juicy! I even ate the flavorful meat around the bones down to the marrow! We were so engrossed in eating and drinking that there was hardly any conversation. The blowfish Karaage was a bit thin, which was a bit disappointing... But the taste was still delicious. It's no wonder that it is popular among the locals! I highly recommend this cafeteria when you visit Kitakyushu City.
