Do you realise the number of wine bars in Adelaide has been boomed over the past several years? All these new bars popped up and some old ones left the scene. This is business. I have been to several quite unique types of bars but also wondered if there would be a bar providing a family feeling, good quality wine and fantastic food and most importantly an enjoyable experience. Recently, I found one – Catina Sociale!
Checked this place out with a mate who lives locally. Lovely staff and delicious wines, topped by exceptional food. We ordered the sliders and lamb lollipops. The sliders were made with a brisket that had been cooked for 17 hours. Absolutely melted in the mouth and left me wanting more. The lollipops were also delicious, cooked perfectly. They also brought us out some 'truffle popcorn ' which was moorish and full of flavour. Excellent little place.
The best, love it. If it was alright to drink wine daily I would be here. Well maybe not everyday but certainly every Saturday night. It is sort of like a cellar door in the city. Quant, cosy and simple. Good food, good wine and good company kind of place. It is away from all the other city riff raff hidden away on Sturt Street it is located in an old 1800s corner store. You almost think you had stepped of a dirt road in 1850 and into a simple tavern much like when waterholes were first popping up during early colonisation.<br/ <br/ Food is simple, antipastos, nibbly type things. Easy to eat while enjoying your wines. This place is setup for chatting and staff will more then willingly share they're favourite tipple of the week. Wine is served straight from barrels and it is all top notch. They even offer to deliver it to your door if you so wish.<br/ <br/ During my last stop I had spied there cheese of the week on Facebook and was almost solely drawn for this reason only. We enjoyed it with some cured meats and a blue vein and brie. It was wonderful. No wank, no shiny things. Everything unnecessary has been left out and everything for a great night has been left in.
I absolutely love Cantina Sociale. The staff are so passionate about their wines and it's great being able to order them in different sized carafes. The Barbera is beautiful! The tapas are also excellent, especially the truffle popcorn just wow!! My only suggestion would be some more vegetarian tapas.
