The staff have a lovely nature and the food has improved immensely over the last year. <br/ <br/ A good deal is every that is applicable to me is every Thursday night, they offer Uni Students $10 Schnitzels! Crazy cheap for some quality food, you wont get a serving of chips be warned...but you will get amazing potato salad and another side of salad! Ordering a pretzel as an entree and a side of chips to share is a must! <br/ <br/ Also the variety of German beers they have on tap and in bottle is amazing. Will return for the food and service : !
A few weeks ago there was an article in the newspaper that had awarded The German Club with the best schnitzel in Adelaide. We tried to go that night but they were fully booked. Well last night we finally got there, Michele and two of our friends. <br/ <br/ There appears to be multiple dining areas, a function room where a birthday party was being celebrated was one but we went to the Club area. There is a bar with a host of German beers available (not being a big beer drinker the range was lost on me but I can see it would be appealing). The dining area was pleasant and had that club feel with club memorabilia on display around the walls. <br/ <br/ The menu was extremely limited, apparently the full menu is only available mid week, which was disappointing as the only options were fish or a chicken or pork schnitzel. Found it strange there was not veal. As we were here for the schnitzel it was ok but a side order of wursts would have been good. <br/ <br/ I ordered a chicken Jäger Weiner schnitzel which came with a mushroom and bacon creamy gravy which was very good (shame one of our friend's plate come out without the bacon, this was corrected once we brought it to the waiters attention). It came with a creamy mashed potato and a small side salad. <br/ <br/ I really enjoyed the schnitzel, it was a good size and well cooked. The chicken was nice and juicy and the crime not greasy which can be an issue. The mash was good and with the mushroom gravy it was excellent on the cold night. The salad was nice and well dressed but on a cold night a vegetable option would be better. <br/ <br/ The staff were generally good, the person taking the orders was obviously new and was having troubles taking the orders and had no knowledge of the items on the menu. The bar staff were good and the waiter was good, the waiter took a real interest in how we liked or meals. <br/ <br/ In summary, taking into account that this is a club's dining room and not a restaurant the food had a bit of that home cooked feel that was very tasty and a decent sized serve. The staff were good. The decor was as to be expected. The price was excellent. I will return.
After first being a little confused as to what the dining arrangements are in the German Club, I found the place to be very friendly. The German selection of food are great simple home style meals. As expected the beer is fantastic and unless you specify otherwise you'll have it served to you in a giant pint glass or stein.
Eclectic is a great adjective for this restaurant/bar/club. The walls are completely full of Artefacts from across Germany as well as different German clubs in Australia. Friendly service and a great beer selection. Also enjoyed the German food on offer the potato pancake was next level!
Great beer, great food, great atmosphere... and it doesn't matter if you're German or not, they always make you feel welcome.:
