I especially appreciate their feminist values and commitment to social responsibility. I was also impressed with how they took a stand during the pandemic to prioritize the safety of their customers.
Female, local business please support them! This pub is not your old-fashioned pub, it offers more a cross over with a modern, higher food and beverage experience, but with a range of atmospheres: front bar, casual courtyard, formal food and balcony...Functions. I have read many different reviews. I agree the food has changed the menu is not as good as a year ago. But what we tried was still more polished than your usual 'newer' pub. I know they relate local ethical food options as much as possible. The wine card is always good, with some really decent wine options in their takeaway bottle shop. With some really good desert wines. Again many great local wines from local winemakers, and a number of them female. Loves the refreshing approach at Sparkke. Try to ensure that all people are welcome, no matter how diverse. Yes, let's change, please support them to do their good work.
All dressed up with renos, but still a rough pub. Bouncer thinks he works at UFC, and doesn 't mind shoving female bystanders. Promised the world for a function, but closed up early because we weren 't drinking enough, and not worth while . Overcharged on the tab,...for all the drinks paid for on the night. Obviously not pleased to have a group of 65 after all the restrictions we 've had and others still suffer. Just go somewhere else.
We visited this pub some time ago for drinks and we liked the interior and the slightly edgy feel to it and so we wanted to return for food. I must say we were somewhat confused what menus and spaces were in play when we...were booking tho bar/brewpub vs restaurant vs perhaps a note fine dining menu???????? it all seemed to be one and the same. I say it was chilled because the beer was just that, so was the feeling of the brewpub environment but so were we .... drenched and extremely chilled!! Brrrrrr So thank god for the gorgeous fire place burning. We asked for a table near the fire and the extremely friendly waitress was very accommodating. She also provided great help with a bit of beer testing guidance. The schnitzels (with, I think, a bit of Parmesan in the crumbing perhaps) were VERY GOOD. One of a few standout schnitzels in Adelaide that have a tiny something extra than just ‘same old’.... but it might have been the nice salad too! Definitely a repeater!
We booked a table for 4 for the Feed Me degustation menu, and were very much looking forward to it. In the booking (made several weeks in advance), we let Sparkke know that one of our party was vegetarian. Our first course came roast...beetroot with mozzarella and salad. The dish itself was fine, but that's where the promising start to the evening started and ended. It took an hour and a half to get our second course. Three of us got pork belly (with soft skin, not crispy), but our vegetarian friend? She received the same dish as her entrée: roast beetroot with salad. We thought it was a mistake. Apparently not. For main, she was treated to (wait for it) roast pumpkin with salad. We mentioned the issue to the waiting staff, but there was no apology, and certainly no refund. Overall, a hugely overpriced and disappointing experience, and phenomenally lazy on behalf of the kitchen. The desserts were fine and the staff relatively friendly, but your money is far better spent elsewhere.
