We have in le mazet (or to give it 's full title il etait une fois un mazet) friends when we were in aigues mortes. everything about this restaurant is impressive, from the beautiful building itself, the garden to eat al fresco, the...decor and above all the menu. As with all really good restaurants, a limited menu, but all tastes. we all had different dishes and all were excellent. my was the local taureau steak and cooked for perfection. the service was attentive and with full knowledge about the menu. the wine list is extensive and specializes in weeping that are made before location. Finally, the cost was very reasonable. a great opportunity to spend the evening and not break the bank.
We arrived here quite late on spec on a Saturday lunchtime and initially were a bit non-plussed by the exterior of the building, which looked rather like a public toilet. But when we peeked in through the gate we found a charming courtyard, and delicious...smells wafting from the kitchen. We were warmly welcomed by the waiter, which was nice. We had the menu du marche, which consisted of smoked haddock on vegetables and then linguine with tuna, tomatoes and olives. Simple but nicely done, and in a very pleasant ambiance.
I asked the waitress to surprise and delight us as I tend to always choose the same things and I was thoroughly delighted with what I ate. Audacious, beautifully presented and divine to eat! The wine waiter proposed a matching wine to each dish...which is a must too each one matched well and we discovered some new wines and only 6€ a glass, so very reasonable too!
The setting in the village is very pleasant we ate outside in a large garden area which was lit up with lots of trailing lights when it started to get dark. The food was only average e.g. my steak was rather tough. I...felt that the overall cost was high given what we had in the way of food and drink and whilst it was a memorable evening, I would certainly try a few other places in the surrounding area before returning here.
