All meats over cooked, stuffing rock hard, veg ok. Seating was cramped, small round table in a alcove with others, space things out more, a party of six arrived and got put on two small tables they wasn’t happy. It’s the type of carvery and establishment from years gone by. Need improvements.
Just visited for the first time in years, the carvary was amazing, great welcome on arrival and great throughout all the service. Will definitely be returning on a Sunday and will definitely be trying other days. Dogs also welcome(advised to let them know and will accommodate best seats for dogs. Lovely pint, clean and tidy. Well done Northern keep it up
Everything been cooked beautiful apart from broccoli and cauliflower it was too hard and I mean hard sorry . Won't put me off coming again but I would like to be able to get my knife through my veg .
I first visited The Great Northen back in November 2021 with my husband when I heard that it was open again with new management. So glad we popped in for those couple of drinks.. It has soon become a firm favourite for both of us as our local . Ian and Kath are lovely and do a fantastic job together to welcome you in their pub. We enjoyed the entertainment that they put on at the end of February. Northen Soul at the The Great Northen. The atmosphere was brilliant all night from the minute we stepped inside. Food is amazing and such good value for money. At 2 for £12 you cannot go wrong?! We had the gammon that evening and it was beautiful and cooked to perfection (not one bit salty). Compliments to the chef! Friendly faces, good fun and good music along with a bit of banter just made this an evening to remember. The pub is having regular entertainment each month so make sure you keep an eye out for what 's on. . Along with regular monthly evening entertainment, if you enjoy a fun and light-hearted pub quiz make sure you head down on a Wednesday at 8.30pm. Thank you again Ian, Kath and staff for working so hard and giving The Great Northern the opportunity to become that little treasure in Langley Mill Onwards and upwards..and see you all soon
We moved to Langley Mill 6 years ago and used this pub as our local due to it’s location by the canal and welcoming atmosphere. Unfortunately, due to several Management changes and a steep decline in many aspects we stopped using this place along with many others. In Aug 2021 I thought I would nip in the Great Northern for a swift pint to check it out. Well… I was very surprised. Ian and Kath that have taken it over have certainly turned things around and made this pub a welcoming place to be again. Serving a wide range of quality drinks including very well kept real ales. The food is excellent and definitely worth a try, especially the Mixed Grill Wed for less than £10, Steak Club Thurs, Fish Chips Fri and not to forget the Sun Carvery The 2 for £12 menus which are also very popular. This pub is once again a hidden gem thanks to the hard work of Ian, Kath all the staff. Well worth a visit…. I’m sure you won’t be disappointed.
