Great traditional restaurant called a Picanteria. Picanteria apparently translates to something like pick anything or everything from the menu for a combo plate . Or you can order just one item off the menu. Beware of portion size throughout Peru. Servings are generous here. The food...was soooo delicious!!! Pictures are of a Picanteria plate and the fabulous shrimp soup. Dessert was fried pumpkin dough rings.
We had a good meal here trying one of the sample specials. The potato cake, beef stew, chica drink, and stuffed pepper were delicious. The only thing we didn't like was the pig feet! Service was good and we were able to share a sample...platter easily since it was an obsene amount of food.

We went to La Palomina because we heard two locals in the city center talking about it. They said it was really good so we really wanted to try. We arrived and the whole restaurant was full with a nice busy atmosphere: nearly no tourist,...all locals great! We had el triple : a plate filled with typical dishes from Arequipa GREAT!!! especially the rocoto relleno. We also had the Chupe de Camaron and that was really an impressive soup... filled with loads of camarones, patatoes, pumpkin, choclo... I definitely would go back to try the other dishes!
