But that's okay. Food choices are extremely limited and expensive. You can feel that the boss is trying his best and it's almost there, but honestly 29 euros for a pasta risotto with 30 grams lobster up is a bit sticky. We loved the settings and we love Arpaillargues-et-Aureillac. We just felt we were paying for something we didn't get completely.
We dined on the terrace outside the front of this very charming eighteenth century chateau set in an attractive old village. Dinner was a set menu of 3 courses priced at 50 euros. The style is modern French but combining ingredients that do go together....I enjoyed foie gras followed by a piece of veal wrapped in bacon with artichoke sauce. There is a good selection of local wines as well as other French classics. The service was somewhat haphazard with wine glasses not being refilled and a fairly lengthy wait before our order was taken. It is worth dining here because of rhe beautiful surroundings.
Excellent atmosphere, efficient friendly service and superb food. The atmosphere in the garden was peaceful and calm and the table location in the restaurant was in a quite corner. The service very good without being overnearing, and the waiters/waitresses knowledgable about the menu and wines on...offer. The menus was not extensive but would have had choices for most people. The food was cooked and presented perfectly. Not a cheap meal but worth every cent.
We really enjoyed our stay in this rather shabby chic chateau in a charming small village very near the lovely town of Uzès. Our room was adequate although the bathroom needed some attention. There was no shower glass or curtain so every time one had a shower (in the bath) the whole bathroom was a wet zone – a wet room which this wasn’t intended to be! The shady outdoor dining area (weather permitting) is most attractive, although the only views are of the chateau. We were lucky enough to be able to have breakfast and dinner outside – almost too hot in fact. The highlight of our stay here was the food (dinner) which was superb. I loved the fact that the portions were on the small side so one got up feeling just satisfied not over fed. Breakfast was fine – in fact above average for French continental. The big disappointment was the pool. The situation and surrounding areas were lovely, although some of the loungers have seen better days. The little restaurant near the pool serves an excellent luncheon. The pool itself was cloudy and there was a lot of algae around the bottom edges which wasn’t removed the whole three days we used it. There were a lot of children using the pool so the water should be tested and adjusted accordingly each day which it wasn’t. The third day the algae was floating in lumps on the surface together with an enormous amount of dead wasps! Such a shame as this could easily be put right. As I said despite the pool and the bathroom we enjoyed our stay but for the price - which was not insignificant - it needs a bit of an overhaul.
The location is very nice...an old castle. Sitting in the nice garden. The people were very friendly. The food was on first sight very nice presented....however the taste of the food was disappointing. It seems the cook was experimenting with different flavors...but for instance...carrots in your dessert...It looked nice, the taste was in my opinion less.We expected more for the price we paid.
