They have a deep knowledge of the origins of the dishes and even share medieval stories. As a non-vegetarian, I have tried many restaurants but this place stands out for constantly introducing new and delicious flavors. I absolutely love it!
The presentation and service at Kanishk Restaurant in Clayfield are truly amazing. If you are a food lover, this should be your go-to spot in Brisbane. The scent of freshly roasted mutton seekh kebab will make your mouth water before you even sit down. This is one of the few places in Clayfield where your food arrives before you finish reading the menu (which always happens to me). I have tried the fantastic lamb Biriyani at Kanishk and, even with a Uric Acid value of 7.5, I rarely pass it up when I am in the mood for a meal. The food overall is excellent, particularly for those who enjoy ROGAN dishes. Be sure not to miss out on the mutton Mussallam of lamb as well.
The food at this restaurant was outstanding, particularly the eggplant dish. The service was exceptional and the best I have experienced at a mid-priced restaurant in a long time.
We tried out Kanishk on recommendation from several people. My husband ordered the mild butter chicken but it was so hot he had to send it back. It was exactly the same heat as my 'Australian hot' chicken madras so that explained everything. Both dishes (once the error was rectified) were ok. We had the papari chaat as a starter - just be aware it's a (very) cold potato dish. Interestingly the people on the next table returned 2 of their 3 dishes saying they were inedible due to being so oversalted. The service was very good but we were a bit put off by our experience with the butter chicken mix up and it's always off putting when you see other diners returning their food.
I visited here after having Kanishk recommended to me and was overall impressed with my experience. Service was good - staff were friendly and accommodating and the turn around time from order was quite quick (about a 15 minute wait). There is plenty of seating at the restaurant so there didn't look like a need to reserve a table but would recommend considering a reservation if you went on a weekend possibly. The food more importantly, was great! The menu is quite extensive with southern and northern dishes offered, all at reasonable prices (expect to pay about $20 for a main). The curry I had ordered had an amazing sauce that I was really impressed with. There is some parking available onsite if you are driving and the restaurant is located about 15 minutes from the CBD. Overall I had a really good experience and would recommend Kanishk to others who enjoy Indian.
