I tried the special, which was fried catfish and grits, and it certainly lived up to my expectations! As someone new to the area, I will definitely return!
If I could give more than five stars, I definitely would. It's not often you enter a restaurant and feel like part of the family right away, but that's exactly the atmosphere at Le Petit. The vibe is cozy and has a charming vintage Parisian feel. The food was exceptional, and the staff was outstanding; that French toast was simply divine. Don't miss the beignets, especially if you're craving authentic New Orleans-style beignets. My only slight critique, which is really minor, was that the water for the hot tea wasn't at steeping temperature. However, that's a small inconvenience that I can easily overlook.
For my meal, I ordered the seafood gumbo, while my friend got the smoked salmon bagel sandwich. The gumbo was delicious; the base roux was perfect, and it had just the right amount of spice - as good as anything you’d find in New Orleans. Gumbo is a family tradition for me since my relatives hail from Texas and Louisiana, so I can be a bit particular! However, I was disappointed when I discovered that the “seafood gumbo” was mostly chicken and sausage, with only two tiny shrimp and a few small bay scallops included - definitely not what I expected for $19. It felt more like a chicken and sausage gumbo with fried shrimp on the side, since a couple of shrimp were sitting atop toast with wilted romaine and a halved cherry tomato. The shrimp were cooked well, but the breading kept falling off – maybe it was too thin? I also wish they had left the tails on the shrimp for better presentation. My friend’s sandwich featured hot smoked salmon with cream cheese, arugula, some capers, and possibly a bit of sliced onion. The presentation deviated from what I imagined as a traditional cold lox bagel, but it was a good sandwich nonetheless. However, the presentation could have been improved; one slice of orange was tossed on the side quite randomly. Cutting the sandwich in half and serving it on deli paper would have made it easier and less messy to eat. My friend ordered a side of “Geehi boy grits” at $4, with cheese added for $1.50. I'm guessing this was intended to refer to “Geechee Boy,” an artisan stone-ground grits brand from South Carolina. The grits were fine and well-cooked, but nothing extraordinary – they simply added some shredded cheddar on top and called it a day. Our ever-smiling server brought us some house-made hot sauce, which I was initially wary of, fearing it might come with another charge like the water, but it wasn't reflected on the bill, so that was a nice surprise. The tipping options were quite steep, starting at 27%, but you could add a custom amount if you wished to leave a standard 20% tip. Overall, our food was good, but the prices felt too high for what we received. The presentation could have used a little more effort given the costs, and while the photos on the online menu looked beautiful, they were a bit misleading. Most entrees hover around $20, and there weren’t many options for something simple like a French omelet with fruit on the side. Ultimately, we had a decent experience, but I probably wouldn’t return, as there are plenty of other great brunch spots that offer better value for the price.
Always a wonderful experience at Le Petit Marché! The food is exquisite and the service is second-to-none! I took my 3 oldest aunts (my Golden Girls) there for brunch and they were so pleased that they were left speechless! Kudos to the owners and the amazing staff, especially our server, Martin! I would be remiss if I didn't mention that each time I have visited, the servers have been extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. You WILL NOT be disappointed if you visit!
Our first time here and will be back!! Fantastic food, service and atmosphere.
