Mersea's Seafood - Avila Beach

Going there every year to get their clam chowder and fish&chips when camping in Pismo Beach campground.

Really good onion rings and decent fish and chips and fish tacos. Shrimp cocktail was OK at best. Very friendly service and the setting is terrific with a bevy of seals nearby piling over each other calling out “ort ort ort” as they cavort. Reasonable prices and free refills and a friendly bar crew there too. Parking: It is on a pier…. Park elsewhere and walk.

Seafood is good quality here. Made the mistake of ordering the southwestern chicken salad, which was horrible. Chicken was hard as a rock and the rest of the salad was just sad. Stick with the seafood here. Staff should open up the umbrellas outside for guests.

This cozy outdoor space features live music on the weekends, creating a lively atmosphere. The food and drinks are quite enjoyable. There's also an indoor bar and a few tables available. Be mindful that it can get a bit windy at times. As for parking, it's best to park off the wharf, where you can find both free and paid spots; however, there are very few parking options close to the restaurant.

I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant due to the behavior of an older male bartender. When I requested that my cocktail not include lime, he unprofessionally stuck his hand into the drink and removed it. To make matters worse, he shouted at me in front of other customers when I expressed that I didn't want it. Considering his hands frequently handle credit cards and dirty bar towels, I found his actions particularly off-putting. Ultimately, he told me to leave the establishment.
