Northern Ground - Bairnsdale

Ploughmans Lunch… it’s a must! This wonderful cafe/restaurant was recommended to us. The Ploughmans Platter showcased produce from this region. Being a confirmed “coffee snob”, I was impressed that my coffee was brought to me just how I like it. Thank you to the staff. Very impressed.

Located in Bairnsdale, Northern Ground is simply a gem. A café by day and restaurant by night, it exudes a calming presence, enveloping a cosy space where you can find delightfully welcoming and warm service. <br/ <br/ The kitchen is in safe hands with chef/owner Rob Turner, at the helm. Originally from Yorkshire in the United Kingdom, Turner worked as a food development chef for Marks and Spencer and in country house hotels in the North of England. Northern Ground has only been opened for a few months but it already has a strong fan base and it’s easy to understand why.

One of East Gippsland’s dining highlights is Northern Ground, a gorgeous cafe by day and eatery by night that brings to the area a little touch of Melbourne. But the ‘Melbourne’ stops with the interior, with Chef Rob Turner’s menu largely utilizing and emphasizing the quality, local produce of East Gippsland and surrounds. As our first food adventure of our weekend getaway, the bar was set high and early on.
