Gomez Restaurant Bar - Belvidere

The food was outstanding! It was so delicious that I completely forgot to take a picture until we had already started eating!

I absolutely loved this restaurant! I visited for the first time today and I will definitely be coming back. Our waiter, Veronica, was incredible and provided outstanding customer service. She has a fantastic personality. I would give her 10 out of 5 stars! The food was great as well!

The al pastor was dry, and the adobo lacked flavor, with the pineapple overwhelming the dish. The suadero was not cooked properly; it was tough and chewy when it should have been tender from slow cooking in a 50-50 mixture of lard and water. The asada was overly salty, and the quality of the meat was subpar; I prefer arrachera for my asada tacos. Salsas can often elevate even a mediocre taco, but unfortunately, these didn’t help at all. They were so watered down they resembled soup and lacked flavor. My wife ordered an asada burrito and noted that the meat was also too salty. Even my picky kids weren't impressed with the asada tacos they had. I still haven't found a place with outstanding tacos in the Belvidere/Rockford area. I might have high expectations from my experience with tacos in Mexico City. The best taco place I've found in the area so far is Buenavista in Crystal Lake. That said, it's possible I visited on an off day, as this restaurant does have many positive reviews, and several people I know rave about it. I might give it another chance in the future.

The food was too salty, and they didn't add enough salsa. The service was terrible; one of the waiters was particularly awful. She kept asking for a tip and even called me poor for not giving her one. Another waiter wouldn't stop talking about his personal life. I would give this place 1 star, and next time I'll be going to Marvin's Tacos instead.

I had a great experience at this Mexican restaurant. The place was very clean, and the food was absolutely delicious. The waitstaff were friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend it and plan to return to try more items from the menu. Thank you for considering my review of Gomez Restaurant and Bar, which also has two taco trucks in Belvidere, IL. Just a heads up, the spicy Menudo soup is only available on Sundays. The guacamole was made to order and was perfectly prepared just in time!
