But one was as delicious as the other (we shared) and I shall be going back to Tasso soon to try their lunch menu - all organic, too. Their programme of evening events (folk, jazz and more) looks good too. Furniture shabby but comfortable, German daily papers ready to hand.
Great spot near the Frankfurter Tor. Secondhand books for 1 EUR a piece, food, cakes and coffee. Good place for a break...
We were lucky to find this as a 5min. walk from our AirBnB. Great little bookshop/cafe. Their breakfast places are artfully made, fresh, and delicious, and served until well into afternoon. Their coffees and teas are likewise enjoyable. Quite recommended!
After a walk down Karl Marx Allee carry on about 100 yards down Frankfurter and you'll find this Café come bookshop. I thought it was outstanding, we stopped and had a beer and a healthy and tasty lunch. It's not to everyone's taste but the service was friendly and efficient. Free wi-fi too for those who like such things.
Cafe Tasso is one of those places that you just have to love. It's a combination between a book store and a restaurant cafe. The book store is specialized in second hand books which are all sold at 1 EUR per piece (I think there is some discount if you buy plenty, like 6 for the price of 5 or so). In terms of books it's safe to say that you find anything you are looking for: children's books, cook books, specialized literature on math, biographies -- you name it. I think most of the books are written in German but I have never paid close attention to the share of English ones.As a cafe/ restaurant it is a place where you feel at home and at ease from the minute you enter. There is a limited number of tables inside and out and if there is rush hour (like on the weekends), it's better to be there early since the place fills up quickly. I usually have breakfast there or a piece of cake (all of which homemade and delicious), but they also serve dishes for lunch and probably dinner (I have never been there in the evening).Tasso is one of those places where you can sit for hours reading, watching people, going online or buying books. It's one of my favorite places in Berlin and definitely something to look at if you happen to be in the area (Frankfurter Allee/ Frankfurter Tor).
