So we decided to enter A Torre, for it was very central and very Portugese. Many men around the bar, having a drink, watching TV, and some guests in the slightly separated restaurant part of this establishment. We were quickly offered a table, and the son of the boss we think did his best to give us a menu, and ask for appetizers we would like. Since I always try to speak portugese, I had the impression that we could order what we wanted, but the boss thought differently and summoned the son to serve the locals at the bar while he himself took care of our orders. Very sorry for the son's personal development, but still, as a guest you can not always get it the way you think is best. We took the regular bread and butter, some olives of course, and half a bottle 0.375 l of red wine. A fine wine but for local terms a little expensive, but not very. A surprise turned out at the end, when the bill came. We had ordered the pork alentejano, which is meat with clams, for the two of us. And the food was good, so was the wine. It is all rather simple in the typical portugese restaurants, but we feel fine with that. It was not a large portion, we found, but we did eat well although it was just sufficient. Later on it turned out that they served one portion for the two of us. A pleasant misunderstanding because two of those portions would have been too much ! We said, we could have taken a small starter like soup, but that is for next time. So a lot of food for a small price ! And we must say, the boss did his best to serve us well, and quickly too. He never kept still but was always on the move, checking everything went as he found correct, and that included his dedicated attention. So indeed everything turned out rather correct, and it is pity the restaurant has little atmopsphere. Of course there were smokers ouside, and nobody bothers, it seems like normal, unfortunately. Smoke gets inside, you know.... so we decided to take a coffee elsewhere, after a fine walk. It was all to satisfaction here, considered the very portugese habits here. We would certainly visit this restaurant again, for it has good food for very fair prices, wine to normal price, but it was a good one.
