Ordered by phone before driving over, and the food was ready just as I turned up to collect.<br/ <br/ We had:<br/ Aburi salmon don, $14.80<br/ Bento with rice and miso soup, $15.90 main: teriyaki fish, sides: chicken ball crab cream croquette, deli items: potato salad soy sauce quail egg<br/ <br/ This was our first takeaway meal after 7 days of eating/staying at home, so it was good to break up that run and get out of the house for a short drive. In my excitement I managed to walk out of the restaurant with only one of the two bags of food. I returned to the car to discover a case of child with dripping soft serve cone, so had my back turned and was trying to deal with that when I got shocked by a knock at the window. Thankfully the staff member was on the ball and caught me before I drove off!
Have not been back for eight months so checked it out last night. Correct me if I am wrong. I think it is under new management since my last review. Interior deco has been changed and a friendly Japanese lady is serving at the counter, who looks like the new owner.Menu remains the same so we ordered a pork Katsu udon and an elk bento with Lobster salad, charsiu omelette, chicken meatball and ebi-fry as side dishes. Portions remain reasonably good. Taste-wise, they are all good except the pork katsu is too dried otherwise a higher mark may be achieved for the review. The bento is definitely their forte! The best thing with bento is you can pick several side dishes. Their chicken teriyaki is just the best in town, very juicy and succulent. Ginger soy vinegar fish bento and oyster bentos are also my favourite. For side dishes, I can recommend their chives or salmon pancake, takoyaki, fried ebi (shrimp) and burdock (so good). On side notes, I ordered the fresh salmon don and find them to be not as fresh. But, overall, always comeback for the bento and beef curry with egg!
A delightful find in my local area. Nothing on the unassuming exterior prepared me for the authentically quirky interior, that hubby and I enjoyed on date night. We loved every aspect of our visit, from music to friendly service, including order written in Japanese. The fresh Bento meals were prepared quickly and beautifully presented. Obviously the word is out about this fabulous restaurant, as it filled quickly, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Looking forward to returning soon to work our way through the menu.
Food is always so fresh delicious authentic Japanese cuisine. Omuhayashi rice with curry sauce is bomb so comforting filling. Bentos after great with huge variety love the plentiful deli options. Staff is so nice.
