Perfect place for Kolaches on the go. I wish it were closer to Houston. Cheese Danish type pastries taste like a New York cheesecake. Also the signature cinnamon juvenile was great. They also had local honey with different pollen types. Would you like to bite some pastries? They covered you with turkey cloths! And the BUTTERMILK PIE? Fahgetaboutit!!!
My twice monthly trip to Austin drove me twice a trip. This time I came home from a celebration weekend and did not want to stop it, so I thought I would stop and see what kind of sweet treats I could find. My visit was on a Sunday late afternoon, so pickings were understandably slim but I could get a 6pk of my fave Danishes. There were many other options, but my sweet tooth was somehow specific this trip. They had a few different types of huge, fluffy, sticky, gooey cinnamon rolls that looked fantastic, and there were some Danish with some imagination seasonal flavors that looked enthusiastic. I ended up with the classics, although cheese, cherry and lemon. They are perfectly sweet, damp and tasty, and I'm sure I'm back on one of my future trips. 6pk of Danishes was $9 and some changes. For fresh and delicious treats so it was absolutely worth the stop! It wasn't too busy when I was there. Just wait a few minutes. The storefront was clean and tidy. The staff I spoke with was pleasant. It was a good visit and I would definitely recommend to see what you can find! (Dough, maybe try it earlier a day. I bet they have some amazing morning options!
Stop to get gas. It is spacious and plenty of space for an RV. We went in and got Pecan coffee and a variety of candy. The carrot cake was great, but the cookies were pretty dry. The place was clean and the bathrooms were also. It is also next to the Taco bell and over the street of mcdonalds and Pizzahütte. It's super easy to get from the Interstate. Just in and out:
I came to the connected gas station to use the restroom and I was caught by the great smell coming from the Bakery. I went with a TX staple, sausage cheese kolache, and I wasn't disappointed. A little too much bread on the kolache for me but it was soft and tasty. The lady working the counter was very nice and friendly. I will come back when I am in the area.
