There's ample seating inside too along with thumping music- almost felt like I was in a club. I ordered the garden bowl- my husband wanted the pastrami sandwich but they'd run out by 1 PM so he got the roast beef sandwich instead. The garden bowl was beautiful and the individual parts were done well, but overall I was not blown away. It felt like it needed a sauce or some thing else to tie all the parts together. My husband's sandwich was pretty good also but nothing that he would be dying to go back for. One of the stand outs here is the bread. I ordered a side and the quality of the bread and butter was great. The overall atmosphere, service and food make it 3.5 stars, and I'd be willing to go back to try other things.
The spot gets really busy, so make sure to allocate time for that. I went on a Monday but the Island constantly operates on a busy summer schedule, so it was still pretty crowded. I had gotten the garden bowl and because there were so many people, expect a bit of a wait for your food.My take on café Hitchcock is that everything is very solidly executed but not mind blowing. My garden bowl was fresh and very filling. Everything was pretty balanced with the pickles, and then the grains and the fresh vegetables. I actually ended up having to offer some of the food to my friend because I just couldn't finish it all but everything felt very healthy and nutritious. The ambiance really leans into the whole island café vibe and I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a simple things done well.
Best cocktails on the island! The people who work there are super friendly!
Came here for drinks while waiting for the ferry and got a great outdoor table on a slow weeknight evening. Our server was quite possibly very new was unable to answer questions about drinks, left us alone for long periods of time while we were waiting for answers and waiting to order, etc.I was a curious customer and was hoping they might be able to modify something off the cocktail menu for me, or make something custom, given that the menu was creative and interesting, but it ended up being a strictly by the menu kind of place like, very strict and I didn't love the menu options though my dining partner found something right away. And so we waited for quite some time.Ultimately we ended up chatting with the bartender, who made some great recommendations. He was awesome and our drinks were excellent with great flavor; they do all their own infusions and it shows. Highly recommend the cocktails if something on the menu appeals to you.
This busy cafe had really good food (light breakfast), and a very convenient location right on the main drag of Bainbridge Island.Be warned, however, that it took well over a half hour just to get a cup of coffee. In fact, they brought our meal (outside) BEFORE we even had our drinks! Then, they just put the drinks on the counter, even though they had told us they'd bring them out to us. I had to keep going back and forth, while my food got cold. They said they were understaffed (like everyone in food service), but 40 minutes for coffee?? Not okay.
