However, during my recent visit while visiting my brother, we experienced long wait times for our drinks and had to flag down a server to place our order. Our food took an hour to arrive and was served cold. The restaurant was also noisy and crowded, with too few staff members which likely contributed to our negative experience. I would not recommend dining at Garcia's until they address their staffing issues.
We spent 2 hours at this restaurant and only took us 15 minutes to eat. The chili relleno was delicious, but the hot dogs were awful – tough and overly salty. The ranchero pork chops were missing the ranchero sauce. Our waitress was inattentive, coming and going randomly. Another waitress finally took our order and got things moving. When we received the bill, we were charged extra for ranchero sauce on the pork chops. While it was only 75 cents, it was frustrating that the manager insisted we pay for it. The service was overall poor, except for one kind waitress who tried to assist us. The salsa with complimentary chips did not make up for the disappointing experience. Our time was clearly not valued by the staff.
I was really disappointed with my last takeout order from this restaurant. The tacos I received were cold, which has happened to me before when ordering online. I usually don't go to this restaurant in the morning because I live on the east side and have to drive out to Austin. Some restaurants in and around Austin have good tortillas, like Garcia's. If I want to order breakfast tacos from there, I have to plan ahead to have enough time to pick them up and drive to the north. Yesterday, I tried to call the restaurant but no one answered, so I placed an order online for easy ordering. I ordered drilling and chorizo tacos, but I couldn't order cheese tacos online because the option was not available - they require ordering two proteins. When I arrived at the restaurant, I was told that there was a 30 taco order ahead of mine. I waited patiently and with excitement, but when I finally received my order, it was still cold. The taco was terrible - cold, soggy, and overly salty. I had to eat it quickly despite my disgust because I needed to take my medication, and it was already 45 minutes since I had taken it. This is the second time this has happened to me, and although I never complained the first time, I called this time. The manager offered to make new tacos when I returned, but I had to work in Austin. She then offered me a complimentary meal in the future, which was a nice gesture but too little too late. I will never place an online order with this restaurant again. The lack of communication between the front of house and back of house staff is evident and affects the quality of the orders. I may give the sit-down experience a try in the future, but based on my prior experiences, I am not sure it is worth the risk.
My 3rd Garcia's to visit and just like the others the food is magnificent. I have eaten nothing here that doesn't make me want to buy it again. Great service, prices, and food. Highly recommended!
We had breakfast tacos, bacon egg and chorizo (Mexican sausage) with egg. Flour tortillas were good but the taco could have be a little more filled...maybe we ordered too many tacos.
