We also tried the laska with duck. The soup was a little bit spicy but taste good. It included the drink- Hong Kong style milk tea and I like the drink. The only thing i'm disappointed is the waffle
I grew up in Vancouver and Bubble Waffle Cafe use to be one of my favourites because who doesn 't love those crispy chewy bubble waffles? I was super excited when I found out that there was a location in Calgary. Located in Chinatown right next to the gong cha. This spot offers some HK style dishes from rice to noodle soups to snacks along with HK style drinks and of course the bubble waffles. You order and pay at the counter, then they will bring your food to you or call your name for the order. You can get a combo for about $16 which includes a main dish, a drink and a bubble waffle. There was a mix up with our order, as we ordered oreo but got chocolate bubble waffle instead. When the staff dropped off our waffle at the table we noticed it looked just like chocolate so we asked Is this oreo? he said yes so we proceeded to just eat it anyways. After tasting it we knew it wasn 't oreo and was indeed chocolate but that was fine with us. As we were discussing among ourselves at the table a guy overheard (I believe he was the manager) and stepped in and told us that it was indeed chocolate and apologized. We told him it was fine but he insisted in offering to remake our oreo still which was not needed but much appreciated. Detail Food Review: [Bubble Waffles] These little bubbles have a crispy exterior with a chewy soft interior. They offer about 7 different flavours: original, chocolate, cheesecake, strawberry, sesame, green tea and oreo. My personal favourite is the original. [Hainan Chicken Rice] You get a choice of regular steam rice of yellow rice, which I recommend going with the yellow rice as its infused with the chicken fat and broth which gives it a much better flavour and aroma. They are pretty generous with the portion and the chicken was juicy and tender. My two friends got the noodle soups, which I love that they are very customizable. You can pick your protein and then select a broth range from chicken broth to spicy broth to laksa. They have abo
I was re exploring Calgary's Chinatown today and strolled in to Bubble Waffle. The combos seem to be a nice deal on paper, and while the HK lemon tea and bubble waffle were refreshing and sweet, unfortunately the beef noodles were the worst I've ever had. Beef quality was a zero, and seemed to disintegrate into little particles after a bite, egg noodles had zero flavor and I had to ask for more hot chili sauce and soy sauce to taste anything I just ended up not finishing it and went on to explore elsewhere. Street parking $4.50/hr, I wouldn't recommend the savory food here but the waffle was really good.
HK milk tea was tasty. Chicken was tender and juicy. Only rice was a bit hard, which was not my type but overall I love it.
Quick lunch with a few buddies from work and all I can say, the amazing soup just hit you in the right spots. Ordered a Sichuan peppercorn soup with slices of chicken in rice noodle. Already an epic combo that makes anyone's mouth water... cooling it all down with HK lemon ice tea!!.. Perfect!
