Oishii Sushi - Calgary

We used to love coming here but it has really gone downhill. Now all the food is deep fried; even the Japanese style fish and yakatori skewers; try pulling that off in Japan!!! The individual portions are much smaller, the presentation is bad like it's all just thrown together and the flavour is almost gone! It's fast food sushi at best!! There is junk laying all around the restaurant like ratty Amazon boxes on shelves and the atmosphere has really gone down. To top it all off, they charge a 15% gratuity on tables over 5 people. I have no problem with this in any way, but don't calculate it with the GST included!! I normally tip up to 20% if the service is good, but forcing me to tip on the GST leaves a really bad taste in my mouth!!! All in all, not a very good experience at all!

The weekend all-you-can-eat lunch buffet is only $20 per person. The sushi is very good. They also have a few chicken and beef dishes, many salads, noodles, and a few desserts. For a sushi-lover, this is an excellent choice.

I personally don't think it's authentic Japanese food, however it's still a pretty good sushi buffet, especially for sashimi lovers. Also it offers Thai and Dim-Sum, so many things you can choose. BUT: you have to exam your bill carefully, they sometimes charge a service charge and still ask for tips. DON'T LIKE IT AT ALL!!!

If you make as little effort as possible at running a sushi restaurant this place is what you get. When we came in some of the staff was smoking outside the doors. They came in after us to serve us. Didn't go was their hands or anything... The service was a slow and minimal. Which is not bad if it's after you ordered the food not before. The food quality was OK. Otherwise I would give it below 3 star rating. The wasabi that was in our dish looked so old, you think the waitress would notice that but nope. We had to point that out. The sushi it self had more fillers than the actual core ingredients. We ended up actually taking some of them apart. The place has tons of seating places and accommodate everyone. The place is actually much larger than what it looks like from the outside.

Had a bizarre experience here today. My co-worker is on Keto, so had requested that our first round of items came without rice. Our server said this would be fine and she 'd tell the kitchen. We waited about 20 minutes, and everything came out with rice. We told the server, who sent her manager over. The manager said that the other server was new and that they actually can 't meet the requirement. We were polite and said that if that was the case, we would have to leave. We left and the manager had the nerve to follow us outside and call us rude, and say 'just leave. ' Brutal considering that we were the ones who were inconvenienced by this. I will not be back and will be spreading the word at my workplace.
