I have a special love for Bengali and Gujarati cuisine. As we waited in line for the buffet, we were given a large chapatti and a plate of white rice, which was a nice touch but added extra cost to our bill. The chicken dish I ordered was just okay, not much different from a mild chili dish. My dining companion enjoyed her chicken curry, while the highlight of the meal was the Onion Pakora. The sambar dish she had was also good. Next time, we plan to try the vegetarian and south Indian dishes, along with extra Onion Bhaji. The price for a small portion of pickle was quite high. We will return, but will opt for the vegetarian and south Indian options as we found the overall experience to be a bit overpriced and some items seemed a bit over the top. Surprisingly, there weren't many Indian diners there.
Good options for vegetarians. Food is fine and quantity also sufficient. Taste is like home with balanced spices etc. worth a try
I had been wanting to try this restaurant for a while after hearing about it through word of mouth. The cost is now £13 per person, which you pay at the reception. The staff serve the food onto your plate in the canteen area, and the choices are limited or non-existent. I found a table in the quiet outdoor area, which was lovely on a summer day. As for the food... it was disappointing. The rice was mushy and limp, the curries were uninspiring, and the buttermilk was average. However, a small piece of chicken tasted good. Overall, it was not a good meal and even at £13, it felt overpriced. The food seemed like mass-produced canteen food, so unless that's what you're expecting, I would suggest avoiding this place.
The prices have unfortunately increased recently, but the food at this restaurant is always fantastic and served in generous portions. The kitchen staff are very friendly as well.
I had read about the ymca dining hall in a tourist handbook and had been meaning to try it for a number of year. Finally on this visit we were able to visit....we shouldn't of bothered on arrival you pay £11 each and tale the receipt to the counter where staff slop food onto a metal prison style tray. We had no idea what each spoon was supposed to be. It consisted of a cold lentil water,a undercooked chicken curry, raw meatball in sauce and a decent chapati. We had paid been served tried to eat some and had left within ten minutes. Indian is favourite food and have ate at many Indian restaurants including street food style and the best little ones you find hidden down side streets but this honestly was awful Avoid
