While exploring the restaurant scene in Canberra, we stumbled upon Binny's and were pleasantly surprised by the unique and delicious food it offered. We had never tried Dosas before, so we had to give them a try along with some amazing tandoor chicken wraps for an appetizer. The Lemon Rice was also a standout dish that we highly recommend. The service was excellent and the prices were very reasonable. Overall, a fantastic dining experience at Binny's.
A last minute decision to go out to dinner and rang at 5pm for a table for 4. What a great choice it turned out to be. Fantastic food, good service by very pleasant staff and a place that we will be back again, very soon.We shared dishes; the only way to have Indian. We started off with ‘shots’ – crispy balls with a potato mixture with spices and mint, with Vodka - Yummo. For entrée, we had samosas and tiger prawns.Mains chosen and enjoyed were; lamb curry, dal tadka and chicken biryani served with rice and paper dosa.
I attended Binny's with friends for an early dinner on a Friday evening. We booked, and were the first in the restaurant. I was super excited to come back after two wonderful experiences eating dosa on weeknights. We ordered widely across the menu, mostly dishes I'd seen luscious pictures of on Binny's Instagram. Few dishes matched up to the true splendour of their photos, including the prawns with curry leaves entree (prawns were tiny and very chewy) and samosas (pastry was dry and hard and filling flavour didn't sing). Chicken biryani was another disappointment: we only found 2 or 3 small pieces of chicken and the whole dish had little flavour. Lemon rice didn't taste of lemon, and a lamb curry was gristly and not tender. Other than the masala dosa we shared, the standout for me was a whole fish served in banana leaves which was served last, but the bottom side burned black in the hot pan while we ate the top.I feel compelled to warn other patrons against the traditional lemonade which tasted of palak paneer sauce blended with lemonade - it was the strongest curry flavour of any dish on the table. We were almost relieved to leave and eat dessert elsewhere, and staff seemed happy for us to go and keen to fill the table. It wasn't a cheap night and I'm not sure I'll be back in a hurry.
Delicious Kerala-style food that finally offers genuine south Indian offerings and flavours. From thick lassis to appams, aviyal, idiyappams, and payasam, Binny's is serving up food that you simply will not find in other Indian restaurants. The golgappa was a brilliant start to a very well-balanced, flavourful meal. Every dish had a distinct, yet not overpowering, taste, and the serving sizes were perfect. It was nice to see a kids' section on an Indian menu for a change. Desserts were the perfect ratio of sweetness - enough to satisfy the palate, but not sickeningly sweet.Would be great to see appam served with coconut milk added to the menu. We will definitely be coming back.
